Yesterday at Dunkirk I met many people who’d just arrived. Freezing conditions. People who arrived later in the afternoon, ill prepared for the awful conditions missed access to food and shelter. Bewildered as the reality that they’d spend the night outside sank in. Inhumanity. #refugees #saferoutes

Another vigil here in Calais tonight Lou. We remembered a young man (we believe from Sudan) now dead- thought to have fallen from a lorry trying to seek safety in the UK. Another killing as a result of deadly anti-immigration policy.

Today #Dunkirk we kitted out a small 16 year old boy from Iraq with a warm coat, a hat, gloves, a neck warmer a pair of pants and a pair of socks. We’d found him shivering uncontrollably in a thin cotton jacket. I choose welcome & love #saferoutes #fromsuffolkwithlove 🙏❤️🇫🇷

Meanwhile they ‘grow’ boulders in green spaces in Calais to prevent people seeking asylum from pitching tents for shelter in dire weather. Boulders, fences, razor wire, army, oppressive policing, evictions, clearances, record number of reported deaths. I weep for humanity. #refugees

Here in Calais they grow boulders rather than green spaces. Boulders genetically modified to prevent people seeking safety in the UK to pitch flimsy tents & have some shelter in freezing conditions. Yesterday in Dunkirk I distributed pre-loved clothes & sanitary products to women & children. They have fled dangerous countries and wait, in squalid conditions, for the wind to subside so they can make the treacherous crossing. We were made to use another site to provide services for refugees in Calais. The French state has destroyed the living area of a largely Eritrean community. They are now in a smaller wooded area- further away from services. The awful oppression of our fellow humans continues. #saferoutes
