The settlement administrators have written back and explained to me that indeed, if you select either "author" or "author loan-out company" as your entity when you first signed up, it will assume that there is a silent publisher, unless you say that you are the sole owner of the work.

This. I'll never understand why people keep trying to peddle genAI to authors (and often authors whose work was fed into the machine) because curiosity and creativity are part of the process for most of us. I love diving down rabbit holes researching for a single line of dialogue. I live for that.

My chart says diabetes too. When I first saw it, I was confused, like *do* I have it and everyone just forgot to tell me? But no, my doc had me tested, and I'm fine. I think it came from my podiatrist, where virtually all their patients are diabetic, so maybe it was added out of habit?

This thread illustrates the weird scam landscape authors are dealing with. Since AI was illegally trained on our stolen work, it's distinctly surreal to have elaborate scams use our plagiarized words against us...and it's getting more advanced at mimicking legitimacy.

Poor guy! I hope he recovers soon. ❤️ Our dog had these huge incisions for her 3 cysts, but she's a poodle, so you'd never know it after the first night. 🙄 Poodles are like a completely different species. 😆

New writers often get frustrated when agents or editors can't define "voice" sufficiently for them to understand. Voice is very "you know it when you see it" and seeing it often comes from having seen so much that you know when something feels distinct. LLMs produce the opposite of voice by design.

Oh no, I'm so sorry that he had to go through this, but I'm glad the surgery went well. Ours had 3 cysts (but no tumors) removed just before Thanksgiving, and the incisions were SO BIG. They really were horrifying, like a Franken-dog. *gentle hugs* to you both.

I hope the vet has calming news for you. Our dog, a poodle, is susceptible to harmless cysts, which nevertheless manage to scare us every time they bleed. But they *are* harmless and painless, and I hope you get an easy explanation like that too.

😆 Exactly! One of my characters uses "The Google" unironically because it fit their character (fish out of time situation and didn't know differently), but yeah, none of characters would ever think of capital-i internet. (Yet even now, Google's autocorrect is trying to capitalize it on this post. 🙄)

Yes! I think I did a blog post long ago about coming up with my own house style. For me, one was *not* capitalizing internet because the capital version just looks and feels stupid to me. 😂
