I never realized that implementing the four laws of robotics would be this difficult. I think someone needs to write a prequel to I, Robot just outlining the debates over the rules. How many hundreds of people had to die before companies agreed to the no murder robots rule?

So much of being an academic is learning how to take a loss. I just found out that my SAA seminar was canceled due to low enrolment. It sucks and I’m devastated. It is going to hurt for a few days. Soon, hopefully, it will hurt less and I will be happy I put myself out there. Growth comes from pain

Has there been any consultation or discussion with Indigenous Peoples about the implications of Canada becoming an associate member of the European Union? I don’t know why but, given the history of Europe, I can’t imagine the Eurozone has strong protections for Indigenous rights

Today I am thinking about how the vast majority of my students were not born when 9/11 happened and yet have grown up in a world shaped by ethical compromises made in its wake. 9/11 is to my students what the fall of Saigon was to people in my generation

Nobody says on their deathbed, “I wish I had been more efficient”
A poem by Abigail Sims. ChatGPT fucks my wife / and I’m really not all that pressed about it. A natural evolution on our path to enlightenment, the fatal flaw made obsolete. She enjoys the median output of the best lovers in history: Alcibiades’ favourite positions, King Edward’s lessons from the sex chair. Cleopatra’s dominating presence, Solomon’s finest poetry, in a package just the right size, delivered how and when she wants it— Work smarter, not harder, right? It sends me an automated email to let me know the labour I’ve conserved in a weekly insights report; Hours logged, achievements reached, orgasms tallied. It saves me on average 15 minutes a day, every day, that I can spend checking my email. But I press my ear against the door, sometimes, and wonder what I’m missing.

Having watched a lot of basketball, I would say that Enes Kanter Freedom would not start at this point in his career for a WNBA team. I don’t think he could beat Brittney Griner in a one-on-one game. In a league with very few roster spots, I doubt any WNBA team would waste a draft pick on him
