The Prime Minister @andyburnham.bsky.social has pledged to hold a Wildfire Summit later this Autumn (which may cover other extreme weather too). The Summit must agree a plan to re-wet the UK’s peat bogs, restore lost ponds in farmers’ fields, and stop grouse moor owners setting fire to moorland.

I never want to hear the term “Russia hoax” again. Journalists like @carolecadwalla raised the alarm about Russian influence for years and were called lunatics. Now they are fully vindicated. A Russian oligarch literally helped bankroll the US President’s son’s wedding.

It's the same story everywhere you look: industries getting immensely rich from murdering the living world invest part of the profits in buying the political establishment, in order to ensure they're not stopped or even restricted. So despite almost all of us wanting nature protected, it rarely is.

Our Cambridge team have found a remarkably well-preserved aurochs lying in peat beside an ancient watercourse, with much of the skeleton still articulated. Aurochs became extinct in Britain around 1300 BC. This one is now back at Finds for further investigation. 🐂
