Silence Not a breath of wind on this serene summer morning. #landscapephotography #naturephotography #photography
A distant mountain under a clear, indigo sky during blue hour just before sunrise. The bottom half of the image is a crystal clear lake without a breath of wind disturbing the water. The mountain is perfectly reflected in the lake. There are two pairs of rocks in the lake in the immediate foreground. There is also a tiny band of mist at the far end of the lake. The image is a vertical composition of the 4:5 ratio.

I thought I’d do an introduction post as it seems the way on here. I’m a professional photographer specializing in the ocean and the coast it carves. I’m lucky to be represented by some good galleries. I also teach workshops. I’ve been full-time for 9 years now - went fast!
A huge curling wave in black and white. A photo of a blue wave with a slow shutter speed to achieve a painterly look. A curling green wave breaks.A huge storm wave in black and white. Spindrift and a beam of light.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 has so many beautiful places, but my absolute favourite has to be the big open landscapes of Assynt & Coigach. I can’t wait to be back there this month. It’s truly where my heart is. #LandscapePhotography #Scotland #Photography
Image title: Far Away Places. Three layers of mountain side recede into a very hazy white sky starting in the bottom left corner, fading to white nothingness in the top right. There is low cloud separating the layers.Image title: Lightstrike. A blue/indigo loch with patches of light and dark water reflects the peach orange sunset light that zig zags across the loch like a lightning strike. The sky is the same orange and has an oppressive grey/blue layer above it. The loch and sky are separated by a ridge of hills.Image title: Dark Mirror. In the foreground is a small loch with silhouetted reeds. The loch is reflecting the pink and blue sky right after sunset. The loch is surrounded by silhouetted layers of hill that fall to black. The distance recedes into blue mountains with layers of mist hanging between the hills. The sky is blue and pink.Image title: Time. Layers and layers of brown and grey hills recede into the middle of the image. The layers are side lit by the rising sun. Beyond the layers are a series of mountains that run from left to right across the middle of the frame. Above the mountains is a soft pink sky, warmed by the rising sun. It is hazy and cloudy.

I need not be afraid of Color. With the word "diversity" floating around these days, I feel like I need to include more color images in my portfolio. I love that I do BW. But I no longer feel that I need to exclude a pretty color image now and then. #longexposurephotography #waterfallwednesday

The beautiful textures of Bardenas desert in northern Spain… The kind of places that makes you doubt you’re still on earth 😵‍💫… #bluesky #photography #landscape #art #nature #geology #sunset
The surprising geology of Bardenas desert. Multiple sand stone hills sculpted by erosion resulting in a some sort of yellow-ish alien landscape. The sky is filled with beautiful sunset clouds showing red, purple and orange tones.
Image captured from the edge of a cliff. The rocks we see in foreground are the edge of the cliffs.

Castaway - 2019 #LandscapePhotography #NaturePhotography #Photography
A small pine sapling clings on to a black/grey, jagged rock that seems to cut diagonally into a fast flowing, cold river. The river fills the entire frame, aside from the central dark rock with the try and a few other rocks in the distance. There is nothing else in the frame. The image is a vertical 4:5 ratio. There is some white water dotted around the frame in small patches. The water is a steely grey blue. The first warm light from sunrise is kissing the small pine sapling, giving it warmth. The image is titled Castaway because the sapling looks like it’s stranded on the rock.

Dethroned - 2024 I really enjoyed composing this. It was my first portfolio image made with the wonderful little GF 35-70mm lens. It feels like an oil painting to me. #WoodlandPhotography #NaturePhotography #Nature #LandscapePhotography
It’s autumn. A fallen tree trunk with lots of spikes broken boughs protruding from it rests diagonally from left to right in the frame. It lays next to the remaining, still standing, trunk it fell from. The floor is mossy green and peppered with little yellow birch leaves. In the background are a number of birch and larch trees, all clinging on to their remaining yellow leaves. There are some grey, moss-covered rocks to the top right of the frame. To the top left of the frame the forest recedes into rusty red bracken instead of mossy green on the forest floor. The image is bright and balanced and has an oil painting look to it.

Gas Giant - 2024 #LandscapePhotography #SmallScene #IntimateLandscape #Nature
A close up of some highly eroded sandstone during blue hour, where the shadows catch the dark blues of the sky and the last after glow of the sunset enhance the orange / yellow of the exposed rock. The image has curving stripes from top left to bottom right. There is an off centre round shape that resembles a storm cloud on a gas giant planet.

Orogenesis - 2024 Mountains within mountains #SmallScenePhotography #LandscapePhotography #NaturePhototraphy #Geology
Diagonal layers of red sandstone and blue shadows. This was taken during blue hour, where the final glow the day cast a soft, colourful light on the rocks. The layers of sandstone begin the bend upwards and form what resembles a mountain rising from a distant landscape. The title is Orogenesis - the scientific term for mountain forming.

A few reasons why I love Patagonia! #bluesky #photography #landscape #travel #nature #sunset #landscapephotography #naturephotography #sunrise #scape
Fierce winds drive off snow and ice from the peaks of Paine Grande in Patagonia's Torres del Paine National Park. There is a whole world of drama and grandeur to be found far above in the peaks of mountains, and especially so for Patagonia!Although the wind was screaming in my ears, it was a scene of serenity & breathtaking majesty as the Cuernos del Paine lit up in magnificent light. Light I had never witnessed in my years of exploring Patagonia. After several attempts over a period of 6 years, patience finally paid off. For an all too brief moment, Argentinian Patagonia's vast, breathtaking Perito Moreno glacier is dressed in the most beautiful light!Deep in the mountains, there is a world of untold beauty. It changes in matters of seconds, never to be repeated. Capture it, preserve it for eternity, share with those who haven't witnessed. Patagonia, Chile.

I’m James, a photographer from Yorkshire, UK. I am drawn to calming, colourful vignettes of the landscape. I hope you enjoy seeing what I see. #LandscapePhotography
A post-sunset pink and blue sky burning through some sea fog. There is a distant blue tinted mountain shrouded in fine mist. The foreground has a loch with silhouettes of reeds standing in it. The loch is reflecting the pink and blue sky. The banks of the loch are silhouetted, framing the water. Hence then name Dark Mirror.A textured and decaying fallen tree trunk lays next to the remains of its own trunk that still stands. The ground is mossy and dotted with fallen yellow birch leaves. There some rocks and a yellow larch tree to the top right of the frame. The top left of the frame recedes into a yellow leaved birch forest with red bracken on the floor. The image is named Dethroned. An abstract detail of some weathered sandstone. The sandstone has a blue-grey tone with a warm rusty coloured piece of rock representing a dead tree contrasting against the cool background rock. The top left of the image features very thinly layered rock with blue and gold stripes, topped by a textured grey layer of rock resembling a storm cloud. The whole image represents a dead tree standing in the way of a storm cloud. The image is titled The Last Tree.A very simple scene. The bottom half of the image is a dark blue / indigo tinted loch with a zig zag stripe of pastel orange from the sky above. The sky has a top layer of cloud that is the same colour as the loch water. Separating the sky and water is a thin layer of mountainside. The image is named Lighstrike

A chaotic grey mountain ash or Rowan tree fills the frame. It has peppermint coloured moss attached to the end of its many branches. There are no leaves left. All that remains are hundreds of bright red berries in small bunches that spread out over the entire image.

This image shows the Huelgoat forest and the Silver river that cross it.
I used 2 seconds exposure to capture the movement of the foam on water surface, which creates swirls pattern on the foreground. Mid ground is moss covered rocks with a small waterfall in the middle, while background shows the forest illuminated by end afternoon light.

A photo of a red beech tree in the foreground with a twig carrying orange leaves. The silhouettes of many red beeches can be seen in the background - they are blurred of using a quite open aperture and using intentional camera movement.
The many snowflakes appear as smaller and big bokeh circles because of using a flash.
