I've been thinking about this a lot given my time in the press pool. While I never considered myself a journalist, I recognize the work that goes into covering comics. Just like making comics is a passion project, so is covering them. It's a shame when a light shone on comics goes out.

It's a marathon for sure. Email lists are important because that's something you can bring with you from platform to platform. Definitely worth investing in. We can't rely on social media because it's fickle and can change quickly, leaving us in the lurch.

The algorithm is definitely busted for us now. It's not as easy to get stuff in front of people. Don't let that discourage you though. You still want to tell stories and make comics, right? Would you have done that if you didn't have social media? Keep going! There are always hills and valleys.

I realized recently that capitalism is the real villain in some of my stories. Characters are put into a difficult situation or faced w/ a literal monster, but they're only there because they need a job to live. In CLEAN UP CREW, it's a big box hardware store. Miles fights vampires for minimum wage.

I use up all of my @hoopladigital.bsky.social borrows each month on comics. I end up buying at least half of the books I read after checking them out digitally. Libraries do lead to sales. Not having your books on their cuts off a whole stream of readers.
