I realized recently that capitalism is the real villain in some of my stories. Characters are put into a difficult situation or faced w/ a literal monster, but they're only there because they need a job to live. In CLEAN UP CREW, it's a big box hardware store. Miles fights vampires for minimum wage.

I read Drome by @jesselonergan.bsky.social this week and I've never experienced a comic book like this. Absolutely beautiful and wholly unique read. I'm still thinking about it days later.

Annihilation. It came at a perfect time as I was getting back into comics and it felt just under the radar enough that I felt so cool reading it. This big, little event that could have destroyed the entire galaxy while everyone was squabbling on Earth during Civil War.

I'm reading the first Transformers compendium. The infighting within the Decepticons is fun, especially between Megatron and Shockwave, but introducing RatBat, the penny-pinching jerk who is always yelling at them about how much energy they're using is just such a funny move to me.

There are few comics that make me laugh out loud as much as End of Life from @thekylestarks.bsky.social & @stevepugh.bsky.social. This book is so much fun.

The cover for End of Life #6 from DC Comics and Vertigo. It features a muscular man strapped to a bed wearing nothing but red pants. There are wires attached to his chest. A little person with a mohawk and a star tattooed on the side of his head smiles and presses a button in the foreground.

I'd love to get the campaign for Clean Up Crew #1 up to 50 pre-launch followers. 5 more would do it. Can you help us get there? Vampires hunt a couple clerks in a big box hardware store. Work Sucks...literally. www.kickstarter.com/projects/jam...

If you were locked in a hardware store with a bloodthirsty vampire, what would you reach for first to defend yourself? In the case of Miles and Roger, they went for the power tools. Find more more in Clean Up Crew! Launching soon on Kickstarter. www.kickstarter.com/projects/jam...

After listening to @kevinalvir.bsky.social's interview on @cbccpodcast.bsky.social, I had to read Lisa Cheese and Ghost Guitar. I loved the discussion and how passionate everyone was about the book. I read it this morning and it was a delight. Such a fun read. I can't wait to read the next one.

The cover for Lisa Cheese and Ghost Guitar: Attack of the Snack by Kevin Alvir. It features a unicorn woman with a robot arm in the middle and a ghost with a guitar to the left. Large cheeseburgers surround them. An ominous robot looms in the background.

A comic book page in a red hue broken up into five horizontal panels. The first panel shows a pointer finger with a wooden splinter in it and a drop of blood coming out. The second panel is a woman's eyes opening wide. The third panel is a close up of a nose sniffing the air. The third panel is a close up of a man's mouth quaking in fear. The fifth and final panel shows a large vampire with his fangs out glaring at the reader.

I read Kloud 9: Book One by @ajomasonwriter.bsky.social and Dominic Bustamante this morning and this book blew me away. It's a gripping, emotional tale that's full of heart and some brilliant concepts. It's one of those comics where you can tell there's a LOT more to it and I hope we see more soon.

The cover for Kloud 9: Book One - The Star Soldier by AJ O. Mason and Dominic Bustamante. It features an alien woman in the background with four eyes looming in space. The foreground has two young men sitting closely with three women behind them. They look friendly and somewhat alien.

Hey #PortfolioDay! I'm James and I write comics. I like exploring the theme of people finding their place in the world. I've done that through pro-wrestling and horror. My next series, Clean Up Crew, debuts this summer. I'm happy to talk about new collaborations! www.kickstarter.com/projects/jam...

The cover to Slice(s) of Life (illustrated by Pete Collins), an anthology from Four Horsemen Press about a world where pizza is against the law. It is an homage to X-Men: Days of Future Past with a pizza maker and a pizza delivery boy. The poster behind them features pizza mascots like the Noid, Chuck E. Cheese, and a Ninja Turtle.

The main cover for A Real Slobberknocker #1 by Dan Buksa. It features two wrestlers facing off in the background, but standing together triumphantly in the foreground.

The main cover for Clean Up Crew #1 by Samir Samao and Colin Johnson. It features two retail clerks in the foreground with three vampire janitors towering above them in the background.

One of my favorite aspects of horror are when you get a new spin on an old favorite. Ex Sanguine and Bad Blood are two great examples of that w/ vampires, showing how these monsters might exist in the modern world, reacting to modern challenges. Some hidden gems from 10 years ago or so.

100

James Ferguson @jamesfergcomics.com · 05/05/2026

One of the elements that fuel FEED THEM TO THE CROWS is the idea of a core memory. Something that can imprint on you at an early age and shape who you are as an adult. For Mitch, it's the death of his mother. That set him on this path and it could lead to his end. www.kickstarter.com/projects/jam...
