There’s one good thing I’ll say about getting to BER airport at 6.30am: security is brilliantly fast

So the Berlin 2026 Wahl-O-Mat is live, and... well let's say there's no major shock in my results

Once again I find myself thinking it's time to make that full-time career switch to Alcoholic. I could probably be a Senior Alcoholic quite quickly... 🍻

Today, I genuinely heard a Scrum Master say “the corporate people don’t work in Agile, they don’t understand it means we can’t change our plans last minute” and, reader, my face reacted faster than my brain could stop it.

Err, I don’t think this is what they were intending to broadcast on the BBC News channel right now…
A tv screen showing a quad-split video on a grey background with a BBC News strap at the bottom. The video contains two views of football fans in Atlanta, one black screen with a graphic and the EBU Eurovision “upcoming” slide.

Just arrived at the dentist‘s office for an appointment and instead of saying I was here for a zahnreinigung (tooth cleaning) I tripped over my own tongue and said darmreinigung (gut cleaning) 🤦‍♂️

LV, as I remember. Might have helped that she‘s had the policy for ages though. And I think they asked if I had been a UK resident with a UK license in the past (both true in my case).

For me it ended up been less for my mum to put me on her insurance permanently, with the insurer knowing I have an EU license, than any of the temporary insurers wanted for a week

Don’t ban kids using YouTube. Make YouTube behave like a broadcaster. Pay creators. Reinvest in the creative industries. Pay fair tax back into creators’ economies. Follow guidelines on fair usage and copyright. Play fair. It’s bigger than TV now. Make it behave like TV.

Not sure if the s is meant to be slightly collapsed or if it’s due to all the tourists sitting on it… 😂
A selfie in front of a large sign that says “Lisboa” in the Parque Eduardo VII in Lisbon. The “s” is slightly wonky and there is a tourist leaning on it.

I have to say this every time someone mentions Pingu, but my favourite ever piece of audience feedback when I worked at the BBC was a call made to CBeebies to complain that the show wasn't being broadcast in English.

The authorities just sent an emergency alert to the whole of Berlin to tell us the power is being reconnected in the south-west. Seems a little over-dramatic…

If you can get it in the UK, I'd recommend this from AVM - the Fritz stuff is all designed in Germany and used very widely here, it's been rock solid for me for years. Although it's marketed as a "repeater" it can also connect to a non-Fritz router and share the Ethernet port to existing wifi.

Oh, air conditioner, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways… (it’s 33°C right now in Berlin and stepping outside may lead to spontaneous combustion)
It’s me sitting on the floor cuddling a portable air conditioning unit and gazing lovingly at the temperature setting, which is at a sensible 74 degrees (well, 23 because it’s in Celsius but close enough)
