James Caig @jamescaig.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Only saw this today - brilliant, thank you. I was 10 when Disco came out and I’ve never really seen it written about properly. Introspective shades it for me (somehow it’s both more literary and more euphoric) but it wouldn’t have happened without Disco. Magic. 110

James Caig @jamescaig.bsky.social · 18/09/2026We watched Amelie again last night and it was as delightful as ever, wondrous even, but its nostalgia and sweetness might make it a good candidate for this. Perhaps rom coms are inherently conservative, but it also projects a fairy tale idea of Paris, of loneliness, and of love. 000
James Caig @jamescaig.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I don’t think I knew this, and just looked it up. Brilliant! (I was a JAMC fan too.) Always so funny to learn that music 15 yr old me imagined as magic was actually made near where I ended up living (or walking/driving past all the time), eg Crouch End or Tollington Park (screamadelica). 110

James Caig @jamescaig.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Drama is magnificent. I loved Wild and The Innocents so much. Stop was the first 7” I ever bought (an EP to boot!). His WFL remix made me an indie portal via the Chart Show. Banger after banger. (With apologies to you and @seanedmund.bsky.social for sharing as a quote - can’t reply to thread…) 120
James Caig @jamescaig.bsky.social · 02/08/2026I remember late night regional shows on Radio 5, early 90s. Mon was London, Mark Thomas. Weds Hit The North, Mark Radcliffe. NI and Wales thurs and Fri maybe? Tuesday was midlands, and bhangra. A whole subculture I knew nothing about. So cool when Apache broke out. God bless MW radio (and the BBC) 010

James Caig @jamescaig.bsky.social · 10/07/2026I remember a record shop window display when I was 11 - ‘20 years ago today!’. By 93 the cool stuff (ie NME classic albums poll) was Revolver/White Album. Then Ian McDonald’s Revolution In The Head in 94. Oasis supercharged AND smothered a new form of retro love but didn’t create it, I think. 110
James Caig @jamescaig.bsky.social · 09/07/2026We had this as a rule when naming our children, starting 20 yrs ago, and used Archie as the example. Anything else seemed to preempt the familiarising that it would also be others’ job to do (ie friends when older) as well as ours. The person becomes their own diminutive, we felt. 000
