Whereas with Arteta, we could see what the plan was - he just didn’t have the players to execute it. I can’t help but feel Slegers walking on a tightrope now because the expectations on women’s team remain high, while results have dropped off in quite an alarming fashion.

The big issue for Slegers, unfortunately, is that Arsenal women were much more prepared (and resourced) for a serious title challenge when she took over. The team has now gone backwards and the players often look unsure about what the plan is, game to game.

Naturally it’s very convenient (and a bit lazy of me) to draw parallels between Renee Slegers and Mikel Arteta, after he became the men’s head coach. Both came in to steady the ship and won a trophy at the end of the season they took over. Both then struggled to find consistency in the league.

Unfortunately I think he felt “if we can hold a lead against Mexico with 10 men, surely we can do it again with 11?”

UAE officials have warned the UK that a severe punishment for Man City could hurt future Emirati investment in Britain, Bloomberg reports. This is the perfect argument for keeping foreign money out of football.

There was no need for Burnham to comment on this, especially as Man City can still appeal and there hasn’t been any indication on what the punishment will be

Sky peddling the lie that Man City won their case against UEFA at CAS when in fact it was simply a case of a lot of the charges were time barred so punishment could not be enforced. They were still guilty.

For instance, there’s a recent example that shows breaking financial rules can pay off. Nottingham Forest got hit with a 4 point penalty for breaching PSR. They survived and qualified for Europe the following season.

I’m not sure I can say more than what’s already been said but it’s critical that the Premier League hand out the harshest punishment possible to Manchester City, otherwise they and other clubs will simply be encouraged to do it again.
