my basic bar for journalists anthropomorphizing AI is this: if Kermit the Frog ran over and killed a guy with his car, would you report Kermit was driving and maybe we shouldn't give licenses to frogs? Or would you drop the kayfabe and say some puppeteers committed vehicular manslaughter?

I logged in to LinkedIn to see a page full of people praising DHH, got mad, and wrote this. Less than 12 hours later I got an email telling me "Your post doesn’t comply with our Professional Community Policies on bullying and harassment. It’s been removed […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
A LinkedIn post from me that reads "DHH is openly a Nazi. You should not promote anything he is doing or relay his opinions on software development. It is shocking to me when I open this app and see people casually discussing his opinions on AI or interface design or whatever, as if he were a "thought leader". He is an open advocate for mass murder. It doesn't matter what else he thinks, do not promote his ideas." followed by the text "Only you can see this post because this content goes against our Professional Community Policies."

For as much as I've criticized @analogue.bsky.social over the years for marketing decisions and inability to reliably stock products, they're not a party to war crimes. While that's a low bar to clear, their primary competitor amazingly does not.

I realize this is a flimsy argument, but does the SEC still have fangs, and if so, can it operate independently, without undue influence from… other parts of the government?

Candidly, I have no idea who Cory is, my complaint was with Laurie’s rhetoric, which you’ve given an exceedingly generous explanation for. I’m somewhat discouraged from commenting directly on the works of other analysts, so I won’t attempt to engage in a point by point defense of Zitron.

James Sanders @jamesaltonsanders.com · 29/09/2026
The Churchill reference is just rhetorically bad. They have no commonality other than Zitron being vaguely English. Churchill was a drunk with a temper, Zitron… has one image meme that he paid someone to draw.

James Sanders @jamesaltonsanders.com · 29/09/2026
Nothing in Zitron’s writing is extreme, and comparing one guy’s excessively long (and, notably, meticulously well-cited) to AI doomsday cults vastly overstates the influence of one guy, and vastly understates the damage that cults can have on members and society at large.

Agree with Greg‘s general point. But let me ask the hard question about moral hazard: if the likes of Zuck or Jensen (or Dartmouth or Paul Weiss) pay no price for having kowtowed to Trump, won’t they end up looking smart for having done so? And if we want to curb this moral hazard, what must we do?

I didn't win that debate! 😅 I'm using Ghost for my personal blog, but unfortunately the only way I could convince my employer to let me re-publish part of a 5-figure annual subscription product for free is if we used this. Ghost, on the other hand, supports tables, which would have been... nice.

There’s all sorts of peculiar goings-on, but it’s news to me that STH has one. I’m not certain if Huawei Cloud is any more restrictive than any other service that essentially requires a Chinese domestic phone number, but I haven’t bothered with this sort of thing recently.

Perhaps the biggest tragedy with the current state of both PlayStation and Xbox on a cultural level once you get past the bloodbaths—and you shouldn't, to be clear—is just the sheer disinterest they share in maintaining any sense of a cohesive, healthy ecosystem, both internally and externally.

LLMs are interesting. They’re helpful in some cases. When I clean up an audio transcript, I no longer have to do a bunch of find-replace/delete commands; Gemini usually gets it mostly right by the third pass. But it’s not magic. None of this is magic or intelligence in any form.
