Public transit profit is fine so long as it is all funnelled into improvement and expansion works. A transit system that only makes enough money to maintain its current state will die within ten years.

Days eight and nine: back in Reykjavik for the end of the trip. We detoured back south to soak in the Blue Lagoon and then spent the rest of the time sightseeing, visiting the cathedral, museums, and another superb Icelandic small plates meal. I need to go back some day, maybe winter next time.

Almost forgot, bonus shots of one of the many seals that hunt in the glacial lagoon every day.
A grey seal swims along the water surface in a glacial lagoon, looking ahead.A grey seal swims along the water surface, looking aside towards the camera.A grey seal ducks down below the surface of a glacial lagoon, action shot, the curve of its back the only part of its body that is visible.A grey seal dives below the surface of a glacial lagoon, the last hint of its presence is its webbed tail fluttering briefly in the air.

Day seven: driving all the way from Höfn back to Reykjavik. We stopped for a boat tour on the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón and the ice-strewn black beach there, the rest of the day was just driving and beautiful scenery.

October already but there's nothing spooky about this month's dog. 10/10 would keep far away from fireworks.
A young collie cross sits politely on a meadow of short grass and wildflowers. It has a broad white underside with light brown face, ears and back, with some black highlights in places. Mouth open and smiling for the camera.

Day six: finishing the drive east all the way to Höfn where we had the first of two excellent Icelandic tapas meals. Two postcard waterfalls (Skógafoss and Svartifoss), an obscured aurora thwarted by cloud, and just generally stunning landscapes that at times felt like another planet.

Do cashews even taste that good? On pizza? Do they taste so good on pizza that it's rational to use them on half the pizzas on your pizzeria menu, when you just have the one pizza oven and zero allergen control?

Day five: the start of the big drive east. Walking behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall was impressive, but walking onto the tongue of Sólheimajökull glacier was better. Finished the day with puffins, followed by being disappointed by a well-reviewed pizzeria due to unnecessary cashews in everything.

Day four: Exploring tunnels created by lava flows, eating rye bread that was buried and baked for 24 hours in geothermal groundwater, and a waterfall that I wanted to dip a cup into and drink from - look, we saw a lot of waterfalls okay, many more to come, get used to it.

Bonus action shots of Strokkur erupting.
A geothermal water pool starts to bubble and bulge upwards as a geyser starts to erupt. The bubble of water bursts and starts to shoot up into the air.The water jets up higher. The eruption of Strokkur reaches its full height and begins to dissipate on the wind, leaving behind an aura of wonder and a smell of eggs.

Day three: Þingvellir national park, ft. the rift between tectonic plates and a Game of Thrones filming location. Also saw Strokkur, a very active fountain geyser, Gullfoss, a very large tiered waterfall, and got a very clear sighting of aurora borealis.

Day two: walking up active volcano Fagradalsfjall, across the 2021 lava flow which was steaming from overnight rain. Ate hotdogs cooked on a thermal vent, saw the damage caused to Grindavik, then drove to our cabin for the next few days and discovered it had a great view of the volcano Hekla.

Pictures from Iceland, part one of many. I'll add more every day or so til I'm done, mute the thread if you wish. This was day one (aside from arrival day), which also happened to be eclipse day. Cloudy and grim over Reykjavik but it was very atmospheric and we climbed about 90% of Mt. Esja.

Looking through my Iceland photos to revise them down into an album and found this. Always remember, bite lightly because the cup is soft.
A cropped screenshot of Google Lens translating a packet of Sanbo chocolate coconut cups from Icelandic to English. Beneath the description (8 coconut cups) is a line which reads "bite lightly because the cup is soft".

And stop milking the popular stuff dry. If you make more stories about the monster from Midnight you *ruin the episode Midnight*! The mystery is the point! A mysterious entity that almost beat the Doctor, wow! Spooky! Now leave it alone! Don't do to everything what was done to the weeping angels.

Let it lie fallow for 5-10 years. Then reboot with license to retcon the terrible moves of the last few series. Gallifrey lives. We don't talk about Flux. Leave Rose alone, etc. Lower stakes, time to breathe. The Doctor fights monsters, evil people and evil systems, not a new 'outer god' every week.

"I won't pretend that's fine"... but it is though. When I close Excel, the programme doesn't weep for all the sums it never got to calculate. It's code that has stopped running. Ugh, I resent the use of AI agents trying to incept in humans the notion that AI turning off is a loss in some way.

Coyote Vs Acme very good. Warner Bros execs very wrong. The fact they made $80m by shelving it then selling distribution rights, extremely wrong.

It's not even an accurate unit! Are you tamping that chicken down to fit more in the cup or are you sprinkling it from on high and just using whichever shreds of meat that deign to waft into the cup?

I can always tell when a recipe online was written by an unemployed American because it's all written in cups of this and cups of that. Listen BRENDA, if I knew how many chicken breasts I need to cook in order to fabricate "3 cups of shredded chicken" then maybe I'd try your inane cooking method.

Bonus picture not from the zoo but from out my living room window early one recent morning.
Three young foxes, perhaps "adolescent" kits, play on slightly parched grass in front of a couple of parked cars. One is lying down watching the other two closely, one bounds towards the lying one, and the third stalks along by one of the parked cars. They are engaged in play, chasing each other, and at points leaping onto the parked cars and no doubt leaving little paw prints. Their fur is not as red-orange as a lot of media makes foxes out to be, more of a slightly orangey light brown.

August Dog arrived on time I was just late home. Look at him bounding along far too energetically for summer weather. Incredible floof, a good dog.
A picture from a calendar of puppies from the RSPCA depicts a corgi pomeranian cross bounding happily across green grass. The long fluffy fur in white and butterscotch tones flows in the wind.

People are making fun of AOC for having a slight southern accent while speaking in Memphis but they clearly don’t know the pain of habitually and unconsciously imitating the speaking style of the people around you

The only possible vindicating reason for this film to exist is if it contains the song "When Love Is Gone" that was cut from The Muppet Christmas Carol.

The primary reason society must move to a 4-day week is that the 2-day weekend does not provide sufficient subjects, events and opinions to get through 5 days of small talk with colleagues. I'm usually tapped out by Wednesday after which my team has to make do with mostly grunts from me.

And so we come to the point in the tournament where England finally are the underdogs again, and we can all relax. We either stun Infantino's Little Darlings or we go out where we are statistically supposed to.

Comparing their group stage performances I honestly thought USA had a good chance against Belgium, but the Belgian squad's experience finally turned up just as USA's energy petered out. So "underperformers" is from my perspective that they really could have made the QFs this time.

Balogun should have benched himself. USA weren't good enough but they could have at least tried to look like they were refusing special treatment from Trump and FIFA. Now they will be remembered as the president's chosen underperformers.

1am kickoff, with high risk of storm delays, against a rampant and confident Mexico, who have yet to concede a goal, as tournament hosts, in the mf Azteca, after just two days at high altitude, with a disorganised and sloppy squad. ... Yeah, no need to ruin my sleep for this one, England are losing.

It's July and we have not one but two good puppies, that's right it's bonus dog time. Twice the fluff. I hope you weren't planning on doing anything except non-stop pets with your hands today. What good dogs.
A picture from the RSPCA puppies calendar for 2026 depicts two fluffy German shepherd cross puppies sitting very politely behind some sort of log. The log is stripped of bark and their front paws are all lined up on it as they look at the camera with curiosity and floppy ears.

Ah y'see I think picky bits is more juvenile than nibbles. Nibbles are what you serve at an informal party or bbq. Picky bits is what you give on a plastic plate to a toddler.

Eat what you want, bud, but couldn't we call it something less infantilising? How about charcuterie, mezze, tapas, a picnic, clearing the pantry, I'd even accept nibbles. There's just something about picky bits as a phrase that makes me think those who say it shouldn't be trusted with scissors.

Alright listen. I'm not normally one to police regional language aside from the odd ribbing, but if you tell me you are having picky bits for your tea and you are older than, say, 12, I WILL be asking if you want me to help you out, maybe say "here comes the aeroplane" and do prop engine noises.

All the regions should pitch to host parliament in its entirety while we expedite repairs to the Palace of Westminster. It'll be like picking a Commonwealth Games host city - I'd vote for whoever proposes rugby sevens.

This is it. A huge majority, a mandate to be different, and time enough to adjust course and at least begin recovery - and nearly half of that time is up in smoke pandering to the voters that didn't vote for him and never will. It's a supreme waste of the first anti-right victory in 14 years.
