To reiterate my point, I don't get why this change in Scottish guidelines is hailed as a win. research-information.bris.ac.uk/en/publicati... If you look closer at the guidelines under "Respiratory and cough hygiene" it is fully committed to an outdated droplet regime (pic 2)
Abstract
In August 2026, Scotland fundamentally changed its infection control guidance regarding how respiratory disease transmission risk is managed - replacing the droplet–airborne dichotomy with the simpler concept of air transmission, and entirely removing the aerosol-generating procedure (AGP) list. Turn head away from others when coughing or sneezing
Cover the nose and mouth with a disposable tissue when sneezing, coughing, wiping and blowing the nose. If a disposable tissue is not available, use inner elbow rather than hands to cover the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
Patients showing symptoms of respiratory illness should be encouraged to wear a surgical face mask where it is clinically safe and tolerated by the wearer.
Dispose of used tissues and face masks promptly into a waste bin.
Wash hands with non-antimicrobial liquid soap and warm water after coughing, sneezing, using tissues, or after contact with respiratory secretions or objects contaminated by these secretions.
Where there is no running water available or hand hygiene facilities are lacking, staff may use hand wipes followed by hand rub and should wash their hands at the first available opportunity.
Keep contaminated hands away from the eyes nose and mouth.

Case in point: Constrained by macroeconomic models' inability to calculate the true cost of future climate change, the recent Norwegian expert report on climate adaptation finds many positive impacts of climate change well into the future for Norway locally, while omitting tipping points.
1.5.2 Vippepunkter

Machine translation English:

In a report from the OECD (2022), it is argued that potential tipping points in the climate system mean that climate adaptation cannot be based solely on gradual and marginal preparations. When the consequences become so extensive, more fundamental changes will be necessary in how society and nature are organized and function. This is referred to as transformative adaptation. Because uncertainty is large, they emphasize no-regret solutions, such as the conservation of coastal ecosystems that help mitigate the consequences of sea level rise, while simultaneously providing benefits in the form of improved fish stocks, biodiversity, and recreational opportunities.

Machine translation English:

The committee's assessments exclude the worst conceivable outcomes of climate change, and therefore do not show the full breadth of possible consequences. Extremely serious consequences such as changes in ocean currents, ocean acidification, melting of the inland ice on Greenland and Antarctica, melting of the tundra, or the possibility of other types of tipping points in the form of ecological collapse are only marginally covered in the committee's report. Consequences for climate adaptation in Norway from this type of extreme event should be addressed in a separate investigation.
