I was just telling people this yesterday. VC dried up in Games, and went to AI, I saw it firsthand. It is yet another way AI has fucked over creatives. People with no artistic creativity were jealous and made a theft machine, and the VCs gave them all the money.

This has been going around, to be CLEAR, the Polygon article says that it's referring to PUBLISHING not Developing. So this isn't quite as bad as it seems. First Light was Self-Published by IO Interactive, future games will be published by Amazon. This does not rule out a sequel developed by IO.

Somewhat, it is similar to A New Hope, it starts in medias res, and you get to know the characters. Nothing beyond the characters requires previous viewing. But so much there for fans!
