I'm starting work on that follow-up, if you are interested please take a look at open-ui.org/components/f... and let me know what does or doesn't work for your needs!

I'm starting work on a new proposal that extends focusgroup with 2D directional navigation and more author control over nested interactive content. If that sounds useful, please take a look and share your feedback! Very open to thoughts and suggestions!! open-ui.org/components/f...

In any case I'll spend some time looking into options, I'm in full agreement that requiring js feature detection for a feature that is designed to reduce js isn't ideal.

Love this feedback! I think a css-based feature detect is worth considering, I've heard several folks being against the idea of focusgroup configurable in CSS, so this might be a real possibility.

It will handle arrow key and home/end focus navigation automatically, all you have to do is handle activation and/or selection state. Try it out, I hope it works well for you!

I hope we can add grid (and other 2D navigation behaviors) soon!

Thanks, happy to see all of the excitement! Not in this first version, but my intention has always been that new behavior tokens can be added in the future. Grid is in a similar boat. Voice your need for this in a GitHub issue on Open-UI!

🤦 I take full responsibility for the typo! (Glad we were able to correct it quickly, and I've already apologized to Sarah 😂) Agree it's not perfect, absolutely interested to hear thoughts on how this could be improved.

Omigosh, the abandoned `focusgroup` attribute proposal is revived and improved! developer.chrome.com/blog/focusgr... I'm *so excited* for this, it's a common and super useful behavior that is *absolute trash garbage* to implement yourself. *Plus* it gives you some common ARIA mappings for free!

Initial prototype of a `<toolbar>` element is coming along. Largely piggybacks off the focusgroup code so it's actually quite simple to do. Lots to discuss and tweak before it's finished but got to start somewhere.

This demo doesn't use a single line of JS code to respond to the arrow keys. Movement of the player is handled 100% by the upcoming `focusgroup` HTML attribute! Focusgroup was definitely *not* made for this 😅 But, so cool to have this out of the box on the web. More ➡️ open-ui.org/components/s...

Making keyboard navigation effortless. Introducing focusgroup. Focusgroup is a new HTML attribute, with early support in Edge, Chrome, and other Chromium-based browsers, that completely handles arrow key navigation within complex widgets. No JS needed! ➡️ blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/20...
