I don't think the designers hate the rules of commander deck building, I think they just like to push the boundries. People seem to be largely positive about the rulebreaker cards, and while I think we should still be cautious I think this exploration is good and healthy for the format

because there is precedent, vehicles and spacecraft were added and the format didn't cease to be commander. EDH was originally only the 5 elder dragons from legends, should that have stayed the same? why increase the number of playable commanders from 5?

it seems silly to me that you can go play in a full pod today where nobody has a creature in the command zone, but people can't play their favorite planeswalkers as commander because wotc didn't print one line on them saying that they could

I agree, but we have so many examples of this rule being broken vs in pauper we don't. I'd personally take planeswalkers being legal over vehicles and spacecraft but that ship has sailed

why keep it the same? Magic is always changing, and seemingly anything is legal as commander if WOTC prints a line of rules text saying that it is.

This has already been changed legendary vehicles, spacecraft, theres one sorcery, choose a background enchantments, there are 31 legal planeswalkers as commander.

Planeswalkers as commander, I know its been discussed but we have many printed now that can be in the CZ, as well as cars, boats, sorceries, spaceships. If there are super problematic planeswalkers they can be banned as commander or game-changered.

I picked up a foil copy of Hex Magic for $0.25 the day of release, which is awesome, but @wotc-news.bsky.social decline in quality means the card is constantly warped. I've used foil armor packets, and I double sleeve my decks, but nothing will keep it flat.
