When I was a kid, the go to for an unattractive woman was Phyllis Diller. As a comedian, she screwed up her hair, makeup and clothing to lean into the joke. As an old guy, I can see through it now and she was a nice looking lady. RIP Phyllis.

In the animated film The Iron Giant (which I love) everyone hates the villain, Government agent Kent Mansley but no one concedes an uncomfortable truth; Mansley is right. The Iron Giant WAS sent by malevolent forces. It's just accidental damage that disrupts the Giants programing.
