"What studio can we get to revive this dead franchise that's fallen off" when the reason Ape Escape fell off, is because Playstation stopped innovating. Ape Escape was their series for testing new ideas. It's how we got the dualshock, eyetoy. The last game in the series was a Move tech demo.

It's obvious that they picked Evening Star due to what their predecessor studio achieved with Sonic Mania, and how that game still gets lauded as "the best new Sonic game", but that's all I read into the decision.

Evening Star doing an Ape Escape reboot is a weird one. Not because I don't think they could pull it off, obviously I think they can, but it feels the same way like when Sega gets random studios to do Sonic games where I don't sense even a hint of intent or desire on Sony's behalf to honor their IPs

Keiki Kobayashi's career best in terms of composing, which is saying a lot given how high he's set the ceiling since AC4 (obviously more contributed, but he's been around longest). Sunao Katabuchi needs to be spoken of in the same way Hideo Kojima and Kazushige Nojima are as far as writing goes.

86. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve (9.5/10) Close to the best in the series. Probably is gameplay-wise. Mission design gets fun and varied. Callbacks and callforwards leaving me misty eyed as a, at this point, series veteran and fan. It just didn't quite hit me with the same feeling AC5's ending did

I'll use Gen AI if a job asks me to use Gen AI cuz I don't wanna starve. The tech jobs in my country weight it so heavily now under the presumption that "it saves time" and it doesn't. You not understanding your code base and constantly throwing money into a furnace saves no time when time is money

I think when I get home and have beaten Ace Combat 8, I'll dig out the Dreamcast and then the Xbox and give Jet Set Radio and Future their fair dues. I've put that off for an unreasonable time due to bouncing off that gameplay loop, but sometimes you just gotta man up and go through it.

If your answer to this is "but the story tho", romances can and should be better integrated through the actual story rather than a bunch of meaningless choices. By setting them up in this manner, the best you're gonna get is the epilogue text screens, and those are underwhelming every time.

Any FE where romances don't result in a child or have any mechanical reason other than jpegs or cutscenes you can look up on youtube are worthless. Supports being tied to recruiting limits in Fortune's Weave is atleast inspired and incentivises the multiple playthroughs if you don't get who you want
