And as sub par as Battle was, the ending- the statue of Ceasar weeping as the John Huston lawgiver ape (!) teaching ape and human children together - is way more powerful than it should be. Will everything turn out different this time? Is the conflict inevitable? The movie doesn’t tell us.

I love how truly insane Beneath gets. Just a dystopian comic book fever dream. Plus it led to one of my favorite Futurama jokes- “You worship an unexploded atomic bomb?!” “Yeah, but no one is that observant. It’s mostly a Christmas and Easter thing.”
