Back problems and money problems, but in matters of love I'm rich. And nobody from the government is after me.

“Someone is looking through me at you.” A poem by Andrei Codrescu.
Ode to Curiosity

It isn't just spying that turns me on.
It's also the spyglass for having
so much light as to have no memory
though it retains the feeling.
Truly, there is no perfect opaqueness in nature.
Someone is looking through me at you just as
through you
someone is staring at me.
Ah, to be a beautiful narcissist wrapped
like Christmas paper around
a gentle voyeur!
This is what I want, Seigneur!
And then to glide out of focus

October poem #terzarima #sonnet
October

The winds that do not stop,
the leaves that every day
change colors till they drop,

the strength that does not stay,
the hair that once changed light
to fire but now runs gray,

the tireless spreading blight
that hollows out the trees
and makes them moan at night,

the unpretentious sneeze
that is not a passing cold
but death sneaked in on the breeze—

It is the season to remember we grow old
and stir up hope in hopeful things we have been told.

success

     waiting on a check
     no I don't want to
     hear a joke

     dull leaves in
     dim light searching
     my pockets

     searching my phone
     with one clumsy thumb
     walking the dog

     to Bates-Hendricks
     the more successful
     neighborhood nearby

     here we shoot at
     the possums
     and spit shirtless

I dreamed last night that I had suddenly recovered a series of memories of when my church group had a civil war. I had participated in bombing the houses of the opposition. I was frantically telling my wife and whoever else would listen that we had done these things. They were bemused.

I am such a Kyla Houbolt fan. This came in the mail today. Deft poems that defy location. Each place feels familiar until it's all wrong. Kyla has done something really good here.
How to Spell a Prayer
(for A.S.

when the poet runs the coast
he holds down the land
for the love of the deeps
let the edge hold,
he hopes.
life prevails

From my first chapbook, Like Now, from CCCP/Subpress. Sonnet in rhymed couplets
Strata

Under this world, the underworld,
where all the threads of hope are snarled.

Remember, promise, disappoint—
the dead do not do what we want.

Under desire, another desire—
a river whose currents we feel from here

as serpents. Every heel is bitten.
Every desire fulfilled, forgotten.

Under your voice, a second voice
that speaks your heart, betrays your face,

undoes intention, makes you doubt
the creeds and histories you’ve been taught.

Under our wills, a larger will.
Under the burning sky, a wheel.

I now have a job where I work my body hard all day. I'm thankful. -My body hurts, but it can do the job. -I'm getting paid fairly. -I'm healthy enough to do other things during the day as well. I don't just come home and sit in a chair and drink beer and watch TV. This job isn't that hard on me.
