I reeeeally want to drop this article into Teams at work. Might just do it. They're all in on tools like Grammarly and other AI potential uses. It's sheer idiocy given our work is supposed to be about responsible use of public lands.

New study confirms that the famous 'cold blob' or 'warming hole' observed in the northern Atlantic is caused by a weakening Atlantic overturning circulation. 🌊 www.nature.com/articles/s43...

Weakened Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation causes the historical North Atlantic Warming Hole - Communications Earth & Environment
The North Atlantic Warming Hole is tied to a weakened Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation during the past century, according to climate models and observation data.

Temperature anomalies by latitude band in February 2025. Pay close attention to the magnitude of this warmth in the #Arctic (x-axis). This is really jaw-dropping. [Latitude = y-axis (not scaled by distance). Data from NASA GISS (GISTEMPv4) using a 1951-1980 climate baseline]
Bar graph showing zonal mean surface air temperature anomalies for each latitude band from the Antarctic to the Arctic in February 2025. All areas observed above average temperatures, except for parts of the Antarctic.

Here's a graph showing the 365-day running average for the number of standard deviations of the global mean surface temperature from the 1941-1970 mean. The planet is currently running 8.49σ above the 1941-1970 mean. The chances of this happening at random are about 1-in-42,735,000,000,000,000.

The whole planet is burning hot when using a 1850-1900 climatology baseline. Except for India, as that's kept artificially colder with an enormous amount of air pollution, for now.

Tiktok has been banned in the US on the grounds that China could use it "to manipulate and control Americans by spreading propaganda and misinformation." In other words, China *might* do exactly what Elon Musk *has done* with X. It's a blatant double standard.

🚨 Global Temperature Report for 2024 2024 was the hottest year since instrumental measurements began. 3.3 billion people had their locally warmest year. The warming rate appears to have increased, likely due to reductions in aerosol pollution & cloud cover. berkeleyearth.org/global-tempe... 🧵

Took this photo at the actual moment of the solstice this morning (9.21am GMT in Scotland). As I looked SE towards the rising sun this skein of geese flew past. May we have their wildness, courage and ferocity to protect our world from exploitation and destruction.

Anarchists know that a long period of education must precede any great fundamental change in society, hence they do not believe in vote begging, nor political campaigns, but rather in the development of self-thinking individuals.

This should be bigger news: AI is *revitalizing the fossil fuels industry.* Bloomberg called it a "surprising resurgence" in gas-fired power plants when we were on the brink of a transition to clean energy. And big tech has nothing to say about it. www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/ai-is-revi...
