I, like so many if the archaeology community, am deeply saddened by the news about @justrena.bsky.social A lively person and scarily good at her job and inspiring others as well as the public. Kind and supportive thoughts to her family and know we will miss her.

Have you ever wondered where chalk streams really come from? 💧 Beneath our feet sits a chalk aquifer - a huge natural sponge made of porous chalk rock. Rain slowly soaks into it, gets filtered and stored, and seeps back out through springs to feed our chalk streams 🏞🐟

In St Michael’s Churchyard, Madeley, lie the six children of Rev. T. H. A. Gwyther. He was vicar in the 1850s. Of the six children, five were to die within nine short days of each other. Newspapers report him preaching to local children to help them navigate their grief. I hope it helped him too.💚

The Old Windmill, Madeley. The building dates from at least 1827. Though ruined, it is such a powerful place, with a real sense of its own past. It is said to be visited by wandering spirits. To walk this way is to walk amongst ghosts, its just some are closer than others. 👻 #History #Folklore

Today the biggest challenge for writers is the new bakery across the road with its odd new pastries. Almond croissants flavoured with tonka bean extract and a kiss you'll regret later. Lemon tarts filled with a buried memory. Tarte tatin baked with rare black apples that only grow in graveyards.

Maps speak—not with words, but with form, color, and proportion. Like a poem, design becomes its meter and metaphor. Both the poet and the cartographer face a paradox: how to compress infinite complexity into a finite frame. buff.ly/vke2Wsu

H-Air Force One didn’t have an electrical fault, it had an enthusiastic virus checker which went off as the orange-topped animatronic approached. That and he was being accompanied by Major Fuccup and Corporal Punishment not to mention the over-exuberant Miss Demena.

Equally, to those students who've recently spoken about encountering bullying at red brick institutions I'd advise simply asking members of a particular group of bullies how they came to be there. It's a legitimate question because there you are, from your state school, all caught up.

Thank you to @iwm21.bsky.social for this link. I have to confess I love a good graveyard. You can learn so much about peoples’ lives who didn’t make it into the history books, about attitudes to death and burial and headstones are wonderful microcosms of nature too
