In my last job (Washington Post Opinion section), I was asked repeatedly to write about the book "Abundance." I kept making excuses. the angel visits me again at my bedside and im not going to die

A painting of a paper angel coming to the bedside of a dog. The whole scene is made out of white paper and a few pieces of yellow tape. It's a small room filled with shadows and reflected color. The image is a reference to a painting I did in 2022 with the same subject. I used to think the angel was announcing my death to me. I made the wings cardboard in the original so that I wouldn't have to believe the angel was real. Now it's all paper. The whole thing is small and ridiculous. Most things are hazy except my scribbling and a few edges. I don't know if the scribbling is helpful to the image but it reminds me of how I used to make art. I'd spend hours carefully painting and then deface it in the last few minutes. When I made the original I assumed I would die that month. It was strange remaking this piece four years later. I thought there would be a new understanding of my old self but I wasn't really thinking about anything. Even now the symbols don't mean much to me. It's all just paper and I'm not going to die. Thank you for reading :)
