Kirk Cousins has gone from the NFC Offensive Player of the Week to an eight-interception, no-touchdown run over the last month. Quality of defense accounts for some of the decline, but it's bad, you know?

Cousins's underlying performance on the passes that aren't turnovers has been reasonable enough. When legends like Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger fell apart late in their careers, their underlying pass-to-pass performance did the same, independent of their turnover rate. So maybe Cousins is fine and just run into an awful run of interceptions?

I'm not so sure that's borne out by watching him on tape. He's made a lot of bad throws and was lucky to avoid another pick or two in the Vikings game. His off-target rate is also way up over the last month.

If the Falcons don't have a trade partner for Cousins next year, they would owe him an additional $27.5 million for 2025 if they cut him and $10 million on top of that in 2026 if he's on the 2025 Week 1 roster. That's a nightmare scenario if Cousins doesn't turn things around, and it would mean the Falcons paid $90 million for one year of Cousins.

White vigilantes have long acted as an extension of state violence against Black people and other people of color, and their allies, often with the tacit approval of police, prosecutors, and juries in a spectrum of legal and illegal acts that together create the political idea of “law and order” that has been the backbone of right-wing politics for more than 50 years.
