I couldnʼt be more proud that at mySociety we use digital tools to empower millions of people in the civic aspects of their lives. We’re a small organisation doing a lot, as our annual impact report makes clear - have a look and maybe let us know what you’d like to see us do next year 🙂

There is a knowledge and power imbalance between big technology companies and public authorities, as well as further imbalances between system developers and public authorities on the one hand, and citizens and civil society groups trying to find out how systems work and they are being used

Response to a Parliamentary question from Mike Wood about the floated change to FOI cost limits www.theyworkforyou.com/search/?q=%2...
Mike Wood Opposition Whip (Commons), Shadow Minister (Cabinet Office)
To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, whether he plans to uprate Freedom of Information Act cost thresholds.

dChris Ward The Parliamentary Secretary, Cabinet Office
The cost thresholds above which public authorities are not obliged to comply with a Freedom of Information request are set out in secondary legislation. Any changes to FOI legislation will be subject to Parliamentary scrutiny.

It seems we’re at the trial balloon-floating stage of restricting FOI. My colleague Alex Parsons explains what’s being suggested, and why it’s a bad idea www.mysociety.org/2026/03/19/r...
mysociety.org
Reducing FOI cost limits will reduce government transparency
The proposed change would narrow the scope of information rights and undermine promises of greater openness across government.

Louise Crow @itscrowbot.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
A weak case for restricting FOI, broken down by my colleague @alexparsons.bsky.social . As he says, governments that think they can't afford transparency will be amazed at the corruption and inefficiency they *can* afford in its absence. Or indeed that the next government will.

Public sector public engagement on data and AI
Whenever we speak to public servants who are keen to involve the public more on decisions about data and AI, an early subject to be raised is always: who’s already done it, and how did they do it? People are understandably keen to learn from what has already been tried. This blog/case study is part of a series exploring how public sector organisations involve the public, workers and civil society in decisions about data and AI, and some of the consequences when they do not. Read more about our work on public involvement in public sector data and AI.

Modernisation committee has a new call for evidence around the accessibility of Parliament and Parliamentary work committees.parliament.uk/call-for-evi...
The committee wants views on the following:

What feasible adjustments (deliverable in the short to medium term ahead of Restoration and Renewal of the Palace of Westminster) to the current physical estate would make Parliament more accessible to MPs, staff and visitors with disabilities.
How should the House of Commons collect and share information about the reasonable adjustments individual MPs require, to better support access to all services?
What aspects of House of Commons procedure and practice pose a barrier to MPs with disabilities?
What steps are already in place to address them and what more could be done?
How can information about what is happening in the House of Commons and how the House of Commons works be communicated in a more accessible way to A) MPs and their staff; B) the public?
What specific changes to parliamentary language, activity and behaviour would make it easier to understand what is happening in the House of Commons, and how the House of Commons works?
