I will dispose of the first myth as quickly as possible. The “secret” is skill. If you haven’t learned how to do something, the people who have may seem to be magicians, possessors of mysterious secrets. In a fairly simple art, such as making pie crust, there are certain teachable “secrets” of method that lead almost infallibly to good results; but in any complex art, such as housekeeping, piano-playing, clothes-making, or story-writing, there are so many techniques, skills, choices of method, so many variables, so many “secrets,” some teachable and some not, that you can learn them only by methodical, repeated, long-continued practice — in other words, by work.

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

To put it in another way. I study film. A simple assignment for a class on sound mixing is to do all the sound work in 3 minutes of Ratatouille. Everyone has the same 3 minutes. Everyone is doing them uniquely

It does. But not on broad strokes. In other words there are a billion Isekai stories in anime. Most of them with similar progressions. Yet it's how the nuances are expressed on each that brings the uniqueness of each artist. AI's is simply "the most statistically probable"

As someone in the very same position I get you. I want to say a big part of it for me personally was how my parents taught me to have empathy, so random accusations are less effective. And also I was lucky that everyone responsible in my life (even as a school kid) was a woman/girl

I think a big part of this is also that a lot of them are very same-y. Like I remember people thirsting for the main girl on the arthurian-ish game. Because she had a more unique look only for the new trailer to make her more generic anime girl.

The problem with this line of reasoning is that it's... There is no direct correlation. I can be the most engaged I've ever been in a story and examine its tropes while it does it, and be completely bored by something and not directly analyze any of its tropes. Now here is the thing. When you call something the "normal" difficulty I am assuming that's the intended experience you built. People should play that for optimal balance of narrative progression and gameplay challenge. And easy is throwing a bone to people who don't care about gameplay
