Re-posting with typo fix and re-boosting this for the US east coast time folks, I moved to Scotland and landed in an unlivable flat, so am offering 15 drm-free books of mine as a thank you for anything you offer as a way to get into a safe living space:

We tried our best to find a home for it, but it's the most complex and ambitious thing I've written, warts and all--little wonder it didn't land anywhere. The world owes me nothing, and I have negative interest in releasing it, or anything I write, myself. Anyway, looking forward to the new release!

Thank you for the extremely kind words. Deeply appreciated. I've written a few things since 2016, including a psychotically researched passion project fantasy secret history, but getting them into the world is the issue. Best of luck with the new release! May it bring joy to you and us all.

I haven't heard anything in a long time--thanks for prodding me to get in touch with MWP. Before the plagiarism came to light, she'd made fantastic sketches for The Coldest War. Obvs MWP couldn't risk using them. Thank you for the interest. I really appreciate it. I'll lyk if I hear anything solid.

That's very kind of you. Thank you for picking up the Milkweed books.

I realized too late we should have been repeating the questions for you. Sorry 😕 The Wild Cards baloney isn't a good introduction to my work. The Mechanical or Something More Than Night are usually where I point folks.

I'd respectfully suggest there's no easy way to do it. Only different hard ways. Waiting until I finished grad school to start a writing career meant I was (and still am) far behind most of my peers 🙂

I had hoped to get to hear more about you and your work. You were very patient! I'm fascinated and can't wait to dive in. I'm sorry you couldn't be here in person but I understand the impossible situation ☹️

I don't know offhand if there are publications beyond his thesis, so this might not fit what you're looking for, but the actor Peter Weller (ROBOCOP, BUCKAROO BONZAI) has a Ph.D. in art history.

I didn't do it for the attention & frankly don't want it. I very naively thought it'd be a cute little thing that almost nobody saw or cared about. I shun the spotlight, but also hate seeing some of the more unkind speculation about GRRM this has spurred in some corners. He did warn me.

Meh, the world doesn't owe me anything. Also I'm not a journalist of any stripe, so I don't know the standard practices-- only that a few others did get in touch (not all). But thank you very much for the kind words about the Clakkers books. Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed them. 🙏

I've always enjoyed @jenlucpiquant.bsky.social's great work at AT & Gizmodo and I know I'll continue to do so! Still, I wish the venue drawing the most attention to our paper had contacted the 1st/corresponding author, as some others did. A 5-minute convo might've been helpful. tinyurl.com/5xz3phaa

Given literally everything else happening in the world right now, I naively thought this kooky physics paper I wrote would be a cute little thing noticed by just a handful of people. In retrospect, I suppose the embargoed press release should have tipped me off. pubs.aip.org/aapt/ajp/art...

I empathize, deeply! I'm usually gone 6:30a to ~6:45p and it drains me. But I rarely do it 5 days in a row, usually only 4. And sometimes I can WFH "thanks" to the legacy of covid.

You're telling me that Margo Martindale and Wayne Knight were once partners on a team of character actors who moonlit as private investigators to supplement film/tv income by busting bad guys with their acting skills and this has never been adapted into the longest-running show on NBC?

Aw, thanks! Btw I hope you didn't feel disappointed all those years ago with the tuckerization you very generously paid for in support of a ZNB kickstarter. I decided to make you a luthier even though you did not list it among your interests.

The best cybertruck description I've read is that it looks like a can of energy drink became sentient, watched Starship Troopers, understood none of the subtext, and then set out to design a vehicle that a 7th-grade boy would want to draw on his notebooks alongside ninja throwing stars and shit.

While I'm at it, I'll add that it featured the most diverse cast of characters in any my novels, incl. one of my favorites I've ever written. I also personally felt it contained some of my best writing craft to date.

A fantastical secret history spanning millennia, adding a magical undercurrent to historical events within living memory w/o contradicting any facts. VERY deeply researched, to the extent I gave new information to historians. My most complex & ambitious work. Also my agent's most rejected novel.

Not wizards but in my novel Something More Than Night the laws of physics are a Mantle of Ontological Consistency that arises when the spheres of influence of multiple angels, each with a preferred definition of realty, overlap. The Big Bang happened when the Voice of God forced them into proximity.

I feel so profoundly honored to have written something that was so meaningful to you at such a difficult time. Readers like you are what give the books depth and meaning and value--not me! I crossed my fingers the story would find an audience, wherever those readers might be.

Thank *you* for this. Sincerely. The greatest compliment an author can receive is when a reader holds their work in a special, meaningful place. I'm touched beyond words that the Clakkers books have such an honor. I'm sincerely grateful that my work finds readers like you. May there be more light.

In my case the contract language scared me off from using an epigraph that I'd written some of the text around. It was clear that I'd be on my own dealing with the TS Eliot estate.

I seem to recall language in my contracts that thoroughly laid all responsibility for securing rights at the author's feet, and which also very clearly indemnified the publisher. I don't know the author, book, or publisher in this case, but could it be a case of publisherial "not our problem "?
