Some happy news! In the annual awards run by our local arts/culture/community newspaper, I won! I was voted best local visual artist, and best local artisan/crafter. And my paint night business came second in best new business! Amazing 😊❤️

My painting is finished! I’m really proud of this one. It is both a celebration of some special family objects, and a study of different surfaces. (The doll was made by my mum, the owl belonged to my Grandma, the pig was my husband’s grandad’s etc). Oil, 14”x11”. Prints will be available! #art

Ahh, rural life. Where I find myself standing outside in -8c blasting The Prodigy at full volume on my phone to try to get a barred owl to fly away because it’s hanging out right next to the bird feeders 😂 (It gave me a withering look and didn’t move, but 5mins later and I see it’s flown off)

I had my first shingles vaccine yesterday... and I've spent today in bed. Mentally I seem to be fine, but physically if I try to do anything - like walk to the kitchen for example - everything aches! It's like alll my muscles are on strike. I hope tomorrow is an improvement.....

After painting that little series of candle paintings I’ve started another; this one is a small oil still life. I found some favourite objects and made a little collection. Obviously it doesn’t look like much yet….

I went out snowshoeing today. I’m determined to be more active, and snowshoes means the weather isn’t a factor. Quite the workout in the deep snow! Really beautiful though. Which is partly the point… to be out in nature, not inside looking at a screen 💚

My photo collage shows five cylindrical Minoan cups each with a single handle and a slightly flaring rim. Each cup is decorated with a different geometric polychrome motif as follows:

Top left: on a black background, a central band delineated by an upper and lower white line contains evenly-spaced dark-orange circles, each orange circle is outlined by a white line. Above and below the central band are swirling white vine-like lines.

Top right: on a black background, a large white spiral on the front of the cup and beside it a dark-orange oval with stylised white petals at each end which looks like a wrapped sweet!

Middle left: a central band of white and dark orange diagonal lines runs around the cup. Above and below the central band are alternating black and white diagonal shapes, the black ones look like shark fins

Bottom left: a central reddish-orange band delineated with a white line. Above the central band are swirling, spiralling white lines against a black background, and below the central band are alternating white and black diagonal lines.

This type of Minoan pottery is known as Kamares Ware, named after the Kamares Cave on Mount Ida on the Greek island of Crete where this kind of pottery was first discovered. Kamares Ware vessels were luxury items produced by palace workshops at Phaistos and Knossos on Crete. These five cups were excavated at Phaistos and are dated 1800-1700 BC.

Goodbye 2025. It was a bit of a mixed bag. I feel like I created some of my best art, but I sold very little. My little paint night business felt like it became established, which is amazing. Positive Canadian election, but way too much USA stress. Hi 2026... What do you bring?

One of my most favourite things to do at this time of year is to be Santa Claus for the squirrels. If I'm lucky, I'll spot one in the woods, running back and forth to a hole in the ground, stocking up for winter. So I take a cup of sunflower seeds out and pour it into and next to the hole! ❤️
