I think Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar is probably the book that I most think about in terms of beauty. felt so lovely and sumptuous to read, had that sense of having witnessed something profoundly beautiful when I had finished it. It's been years now and I'm almost scared to reread it

“Nothing definitive,” she says. “I’m not sure— I know you knew his parents, were friends with them. I’m not sure if you knew much about their families? We’re having trouble tracking relatives down.”

Buck nods, swallowing hard. “They didn’t have much in the way of family,” he says, trying not to feel guilty because it’s true. Whether or not it’s what he’d want to say either way, it’s true. “It’s part of why they wanted a kid, they wanted to create a family, you know?” He voice feels tight with it. It’s easier to focus on Theo, on how much he wishes he could swing him up into his arms, to not think about the gnawing loss of his friends. A week ago, he couldn’t have said either way if they were still alive and okay. The not knowing, a burr under his skin that he barely even thought about, a scar that just occasionally twinged when it rained. Something he’d give anything to have back, and yet… And yet he can’t help his own guilt at how glad he was to get to know Theo, before he even knew who he was. The joy that he had found in re-connecting with his friends, in seeing the family they’d built. He’d give it back, of course he would, if it meant they were still out there, unknown but alive. He still feels sick with guilt.

Yes! from dried soy beans! You have to blend them and then add a coagulant and they form curds which you collect and press into tofu! It’s not actually too hard, just a lil time consuming
