Took my child to the beach for the first time today. He sat in the same spot for 4 hours and splashed and buried his leg in sand and admired the view. Such a peaceful day. Just wish I'd remembered to get my other foot with sunscreen after doing the first one -- it's now beet red and super painful.

I've never watched films that focus on HIV/AIDS. I'm fairly educated on the topic, but working in testing, education, and hospice in the 1990s made it too painful to watch. It's been a long time since I've lost anyone to it, so I'm watching the adaptation of the book 'And The Band Played On'.

I homeschool because our schools are full of hard-right Christians that would put my child through hell if it was found out their parents are both trans. If you're so narrow-minded that you can't think of the numerous reasons people might want to homeschool, you shouldn't have a podcast.

I never knew my dad. I'm doing some ancestry research and happened across his highschool yearbook photo. I won't post his picture since he's still alive and well-known through my sister, but this pic of Jeffrey Dahmer at the same age is his doppelganger, down to the haircut and glasses. So eerie.

@gluesenkampperez.house.gov admits that it was shortsighted of her to vote for cuts to nutrition programs. I agree, which is why I will not be voting for her this year.

I know families are struggling to make ends meet and local food banks are struggling to keep food on their shelves. Congress has an important role to play in supporting small farmers and combatting rapid consolidation and rising prices in the agricultural sector. In addition, Congress has a role in providing immediate relief to working families through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women and Children (WIC), and the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). SNAP, in particular, is a lifeline for rural communities, like mine. I believe cutting these programs would be shortsighted and would devastate the millions who rely on them.

House Republicans, with the help of four Democrats, voted Thursday to approve legislation that would slash nutrition assistance for millions of young children and pregnant and postpartum women, even as food prices continue to rise nationwide and earlier GOP cuts to federal aid take hold.

In a 213-210 vote, largely along party lines, House lawmakers passed an appropriations bill that would fund the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and other agencies for the coming fiscal year. The four Democrats who voted with most Republicans to approve the measure were Reps. Vicente Gonzalez (Texas), Adam Gray (Calif.), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.), and Don Davis (NC).
