I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

A strike around the domination of production by the employer is hard to win. The employer is much more likely to cave on wages than this. When it ended, it was with a lot of opposition from the lesser skilled workers but the more highly skilled workers ratified the agreement by a large margin.

Automation lies. It tells people it makes their lives easier. It does not. It unemploys some and it centers all the profit in the capitalists while working the remaining laborers with ever more intensity.

The Northeast is about to get slammed by a nor’easter and the biggest concern isn’t the expected flooding, downed trees, and power outages, its that Trump has already denied eligible disaster aid for past storms and state and local budgets can’t absorb much more on their own.

Oligarchs. The word for very rich businesspeople directly connected to the top of the government and playing a role in high-level government functions is “oligarchs.” Way beyond lobbying, donating, and advisory councils. Trump brought them on his trip to China too. America has oligarchs now.

This is corruption of the highest order. Susan Collins delivered millions in taxpayer dollars for a corrupt donor bankrolling her campaign, and then Donald Trump helped her cover it up. No wonder she voted with him 96% of the time and has rubberstamped his agenda to hurt Maine.

Disability support policy is a giant test of the principle “Innocent Until Proven Guilty”. Systems that gatekeep disability benefits to prevent supposed grifting are betraying that principle by deciding it’s worth making many innocents struggle & starve to stop a few bad actors. Same with welfare.

Democrats currently win elections when people are so angry and frightened by what Republicans are doing that they take a chance on a party they neither like nor trust. Ask yourself: Is that likely to lead to broad popularity and a mandate for Democratic priorities?

Unpopular opinion: When someone is factually wrong about something important—eg vaccination—telling them that they’re wrong is treating them with respect. The condescending thing to do is indulge them, act like they have a point, as if the thing you know to be wrong might be at least somewhat right.

I was reading an author recently talking about how we don't appreciate the way that email isn't siloed. That is, you don't have to be in gmail to talk to someone else in gmail. The norm is so powerful, it'd be unthinkable to change it. All email is interoperable. Social media could've been this way.

At this point I'm pretty sure no one who negotiates with this administration expects it to either offer a reasonable deal or to honor the terms of the deal once it's been set. The question is whether to treat it like the unreliable bully it is. We have Canada's answer, for now at least.
