Me too, and totally agree: anyone building a stone wall is very unlikely to go to all the extra trouble and effort to stand a stone up like that. So to me it almost certainly stood alone before the wall was built, but whether it was erected in prehistoric times is harder to know.

I have my suspicions that the large upright stone – about 4' 6" from the ground – in this section of walling may be a prehistoric standing stone, with the wall built around it much later. But there's likely no way to be sure, and that's okay too, leaving more space for the imagination.

The wild rainforest in our place is criss-crossed with old mossy stone walls, built when this was all open farmland before the trees returned. Nature loss *can* be reversed.

At times like this, the mask really comes off the British media. There is no pretence - at all - about their impartiality or objectivity towards the Green Party. It is a blatant naked partisan cross-media assault against the Greens.

Turns out we don’t have to invoke weapons of mass destruction when talking about ocean heat uptake. The ocean absorbed a record-breaking 23 zettajoules of heat last year, equivalent to 40 times the energy used by humanity. It’s not going to end well.

I hunt alien invasive sika deer in my place and locally for ecological motives, and use nothing but solid non-toxic copper ammunition. Apart from the impacts on nature from lead, if you're consuming venison, you *really* don't want lead fragments in your food.

But a lot still needs to change in Killarney NP. There's plenty of evidence of heavy browsing of tree seedlings, and large bands of goats were present in and around the park. Designated one of the worst invasive species on Earth by the IUCN, there should be *no* goats at all in any national park.

I'm delighted to say that, after many years anguishing over the desperate state of Killarney NP, I'm seeing a partial ecological recovery, like this wild baby arbutus tree. Such positive signs can only mean one thing: the NPWS must finally be taking a more proactive approach to invasive sika deer.
