Ha! Seriously the CPUC is half the problem; it rubber stamps pretty much EVERYTHING SDG&E and the other utilities ask for. AB 1813 reins in CPUC and brings community solar to CA (folks in other states save 10%-40% on bills). Let's harass Newsom into signing it by Wednesday: yesonab1813.org

YES! And it's needed: California's 2022 community solar program produced ZERO projects because the utilities, acting through the CPUC, hamstrung it. This rewrite is the fix. Newsom has until Wednesday. It takes 60 secs to tell him to sign: yesonab1813.org

4 panels ordered and just waiting on the microinverter? Love it, FINGERS crossed. SB 868 is on Newsom's desk until Wednesday, and so is AB 1813: community solar, where folks in other states save 10%-40% on bills with no panels. The utilities hate both. yesonab1813.org

When people think of solar on land, most picture it going on prime farmland. But that is rarely the case as most farmers, who are the ones that make the decision on what to do with their land, want to keep farming. Most of these projects are on underutilized or/and non-productive land.

Shae von Londinium @intrepidbrit.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Precisely. Community Solar projects can go anywhere, not just on Ag land. But it's nearly always much cheaper and faster to build a single large 5 Megawatt system on ~15 acres of unproductive land than 50 small 100kW systems on roofs and parking lots, meaning more savings for subscribers.

It is a FANTASTIC idea. So is the Community Solar bill, AB 1813. As you correctly surmised, Newsom will be tempted to veto both because PG&E and the other utilities hate it. But he has presidential ambitions, so we need to make sure he knows we're watching. Send him a direct message. yesonab1813.org

I suspect the odds of the Governor vetoing a bill that PG&E doesn't like correlates strongly with how much attention he thinks average Californians are paying to the issue... So we gotta make sure he knows we're watching what he does with the Balcony Solar & Community Solar bills. yesonab1813.org

Folks in other states that sign up to their Community Solar program save 10%-40% on their electric bills. PG&E and the other utilities, acting through CPUC, have hamstrung previous attempts to do that in CA. We can't let them succeed. AB1813 reigns in CPUC and we must urge Newsom to sign it.

We also need Newsom to sign AB 1813 to bring a real, functional Community Solar program to CA. Folks in other states that have this program save 10%-40% on their electric bills. PG&E and the other utilities, acting through CPUC, have hamstrung previous attempts. We can't let them do that again.

I would summarize Gavin thusly: the most prudent actions are ones that benefit his political ambitions and, if they also benefit the people of California, even better. It's not that he doesn't care (I believe he does, a lot), but I suspect he would never let the greater good outweigh his ambitions.🧵

The more I think about it, the more appealing I find this idea. Thoughts @nickandert.bsky.social? Which org(s) could spearhead an effort to get this on the 2026 ballot? Now would be the time, strike while the iron/anger over the C/K extension decision is still hot.

Someone said that, in order to deal with the NIMBY problem, the LA Metro Board should be elected. I initially thought that wouldn’t really help as the current board members are already elected to other seats… but a direct election would likely result in pro-transit voters outweighing NIMBY voters.

Having the IOS run D to G actually makes sense due to the cost of tunneling. If they don’t start that ASAP, it’ll only get more expensive. And I suspect boardings will be highest on that segment anyway, it makes sense to get the most useful part operating first unlike a certain highspeed rail line..
