28.12.2022 - Visit to Kaipara Coast Plant Centre & Sculpture Garden. Just a short distance from the entrance of the sculpture trail is the second sculpture: “Tik Tok” by Rod McMahon. The large work of art is made of steel pipe and corten steel (and very reasonably priced at $18K!) 👀 From the description: “Due to electronic devices, most of us never see the passing of a minute anymore. Tik Tok visually reminds us of how fleeting a minute is by showing time as a mechanically moving element.” And yes, the sculpture does move! Set in a dense green copse with a layer of leaves on the ground underneath, four large, rusted steel rings rotate, each ring having cut out numbers, as well as the words “TIK TOK”. At the time of the photo, it was 15.05, which prominently displays in the middle of the photo. In the lower right-hand corner is a small, dark blue sign with the sculpture’s details.
