“The work has divided #AI researchers.” Half the researchers are debating whether to leave the field of AI, and the other half whether to leave academia altogether. They all agree however on one thing: Science is drunk.

I mean, where's the line? Are ovens a "luxury"? In Argentina hyperinflation is gone (though inflation is not zero as promised by Milei), but all goods have become so unbelievably expensive that after exhausting their credit with banks and credit cards, people turn to loan sharks…

Yeah. Just to clarify as my writing was confusing, the “only reasonable course of action” part was about the stopping being presented as such, not about the assigning. 😬

Ariel Guersenzvaig @interacciones.org · 11/09/2026
And what about stopping assigning essays as the only reasonable course of action because students use LLMs and can generate them in four seconds with no effort?

Maybe here’s the main difference. I didn’t have explicit intention or deliberate, analytical rationality in mind as necessary. Basing their decision-making on a “reflex from their worldview” suffices for me as a sign of (embodied) cognition (primed by their values/worldview/habits/purposes/etc.).

I mean, “marshalled systematically” by its creators to deceive users… i.e., verbs used as means to trick people into believing LLMs actually “ponder” over things 🤷🏽‍♂️ Be that as it may, we’are roughly on the same page, and maybe my initial reply didn’t come across as I intended: it wasn’t a challenge.

maybe they are less insidious when they are isolated cases but I don’t think they are when those verbs are marshalled systematically and structurally embedded in the interaction style zenodo.org/records/1934...
Text: Who hasn't tried to verbally cajole a stalled car into starting or said that their laptop "decided" to update at the worst moment? These, however, are weak versions of anthropomorphism in the form of "as if" metaphorical reasoning used as a pragmatic predictive strategy. Most of us don't really believe that talking to our car will help start it.
However, Epley, Waytz, and Cacioppo (2007: 867) posit that even very weak versions of anthropomorphism
"can still have a powerful impact on behavior, with people behaving toward agents in ways that are consistent with these metaphors." What is more, even a small sensory cue can trigger anthropomorphism, "Adding a humanlike voice to a machine might make it seem more like a person" (Schroeder and Epley 2016: 1428). If even minimal cues trigger social responses, what can we expect from systems that simulate fluid, seemingly coherent, conversational exchanges with humans on purpose and in real time?
We believe anthropomorphism in genAl is more ethically problematic than when we say, for instance, that our printer is being "stubborn," because the contextual conditions to foster this tendency when using chatbots have become engineered, i.e. hardcoded, into the interactional style these systems are designed to follow.
Attributing human capacities to a machine is the result of a structural feature of generative Al systems,
