Wine. Just wine.

This bottle was shining yesterday. It needed some time but then ut was complex and balanced. Foradori rules.

It must be really hard to make wine in a region like Fitou. This Noblesse du Temps 2016 is excellent and costs 21,50€ at the winery. Very Bordelais in fact. So why would you buy Fitou at that price point if you can buy Bordeaux at similar price (or cheaper!) and quality?

I really love how Austrian Sauvignon Blanc carved out a place for itself. Still recognisable as SB but so different in character from Loire SB. Riper aromatics (mango!), but still wonderfully fresh and balanced.

This was pretty good. Sangiovese from Emilia Romagna. Rather big and bold at this stage with ripe tannins and lifting acidity. Several years left. This is night and day with the Sangiovese of Chiara Condello, but very good in its own way.

Do others run into this problem with Cellartracker? I have it quite regularly.

Opened this for with the steak tonight and it’s showing already quite well after 14 years of solitude. Elegant, as you’d expect from Margaux.

Vintage Tunina 2021, Jermann, Friuli. A very unlikely blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Ribolla and Picolit. Monocépage drinkers will hate this, but it actually works very well. Very attractive, elegant nose. Perfect balance between freshness and body. Hard not to like this!

Sadie's Grenache 2024 : floral, red cherry, pomegranate. Very fragile, but on the nose it works. On the palate, though, it's lacking depth and length. I was ready to love this wine, as I'm not a fan of Ch9P styled Grenache, but this is just too lean. I hope I'm wrong and that this is just too young.

I liked this less than I thought I would. Great nose, lovely minerality! But a little bit thin on the palate. I like linear and fresh wines, but here there was just something missing.

Pop and pour : fantastic. Apricot and orange marmelade. Very lively and uplifting on the palate. After 15 minutes, oh no, mouse. After one hour, getting hard to still enjoy it. This is not ok, is it?

This is pretty disappointing. Extremely light colour, even for a Nebbiolo. Very little going on. I had some water melon (!) on the nose but not much more. And on the palate it's equally boring and simple. Not worth it's 50€ unfortunately.

Frappato by Arianna Occhipinti. Hint of barnyard (which I like), ripe red fruit, and some sweet spice like cinnamon. Reminds me a bit of a (natural) Beaujolais, but then with more backbone and a bright acidic vein that runs through it all. Lovely!

Gamay from the Côte roannaise. First vintage of this new winery and immediately spot on. Earthy on the nose and beautiful pure red fruit. Velvety mouthfeel. So good!

2012 tasting. Il Poggione was really attractive, probably at its best now. I also liked the Pradeaux very much, although the tannins were a but edgy. And Chasse-Spleen confirmed as an overperformer.

I liked this wine more than I expected. It’s in a really good place now, good balance. But it’s a very “bordelais” Chianti. If you want to drink Bordeaux, you drink Bordeaux, right? Or is that just me?

Little wine tasting tonight. All wines were showing well, but I was particularly impressed by the Vers le Nord of Mas Amiel. Blind I thought this was Burgundy. Also the Val dei Preti of Matteo Correggia was delightful. Nebbiolo from sandy terroir, giving a very digest and refined wine.

🤯🤯🤯 Can you believe it?!? This is crrrrazy if true and something more natural winemakers might want to explore if the case! Catch this super interesting winemaker at @confettiwinefest this month in Krakow! 👀Horst runs @weingut.hummel in Hungary, making excellent expressions of many grapes, with a strong focus on Hárslevelű. He also goes beyond Biodynamics and has written a book on philosophy he created called Natural Synergetic Winegrowing NSW . This is “the further development of the principles and knowledge of biodynamic agriculture and homeopathy and their extension to viticulture and vinification while taking into account and applying diagnostic, preventive and curative knowledge and practices of kinesiology.Natural Synergetic Winegrowing NSW is based on the knowledge of quantum physics about the essence of matter, on the assumption of the existence of morphic and morphogenetic fields and their location in the 4th and higher spatial dimensions, as well as on thinking in multi-valued logic. Both for diagnosis and for the treatment of unwanted symptoms, next to consciousness in the way of directed meditation (psychokinesis), it uses the synergetic psychokinetic kinesiological method Omega Health Coaching developed by the Dutch medicine Dr. Roy Martina, which so far, as far as is known, has only been used for the diagnosis and treatment of people.”Watch the full 10 minute interview on our Youtube channel and find the wines on @morenaturalwine - don’t miss the 2018 Pryxx Sekt, which is absolutely sensational!!!

Normally I like Riesling Kabinett, and that wonderful play between sweetness and acidity. But here the sweetness is quite prominent and the wine a bit too simple in general. It’s almost like I’m drinking lemonade. Alcopop, as it were.

This was a lovely Sangiovese. The light colour might suggest this is a light wine, but it had real substance and body. I liked the brooding notes of leather and cardamom. Eager to try the Brunello now.

Gorgeous Saperavi. One of the best I've had. Perfectly ripe fruit, but with a cold climate feel to it. Subtle oak and refined tannins. Still loads of power and energy, and not at its peak yet, I'd say, despite its age.

It's been a while since I had a Verdicchio. This 2023 of Villa Bucci ticks all the boxes. More mineral than fruit driven nose. Elegant in a fresh and linear way. Subtle lemon pith in the finish. Perfect for the first day of Spring.

A style of Sangiovese I like. Relatively light and lifted. But I had hoped for a little more. It's pretty straightforward at this point. I would have liked a bit more depth. Pretty short finish as well.

So much oak in this wine. Name well chosen really. Gets better with air, but still. Maybe in 5 years.

17-year old Aglianico. Unbelievable how youthful this still is. Quite elegant as well. And this is “just” the Irpinia. I think I’ll keep my hands off the Taurasi for another while. This is also ridiculously cheap for the quality you get.

Wow, this is good. Very attractive floral aromas, and fresh red fruit. Pure and precise. You know what @dumbfatbob.bsky.social, you can leave me on a desert island with this wine and I’ll be just fine. Who needs Pinot Noir anyway? 😅

I haven’t kept statistics but I think it’s safe to say that one out two natural Beaujolais has mouse taint. I’m really tired of this.

Second bull’s eye for Venica after the Friulano. It needed some air to get rid of some rather unpleasant vegetal aromas (asparagus!) but then it opened up to enticing mineral aromas, fresh pineapple and subtle herbal notes. A nimble and precise Sauvignon with the telltale citrus pith in the finish.

2nd time I have Areni from Armenia. This 2016 is a collaboration between Paul Hobbs and the Yacoubian family. I like the ethereal raspberry fruit here, but there's an oak background that this wine simply cannot carry. The 2022 seems to be aged in steel tanks. Should be better.

Are there any takes on the effects of Mercosur on wine? I read that it's a opportunity for EU wines but will it really make the difference against cheaper Chilean wines for example?

Foradori’s Miko Flor 2023, a Chardonnay developed under flor in Trentino. Intriguing nose with minerality, curry, and something like resin. Crystalline and mountain freshness. Really quite unique!

Ok @ridesmith.bsky.social you were right. Venica’s Ronco delle Cime Friulano is a beauty. Attractive nose with flint, grapefruit, and a hint of pineapple. Lovely creamy mouthfeel with electrifying acidity and a slightly bitter note in the finish that works really well for this wine.

Some elegance in this Barbaresco 2013 of Michele Chiarlo, but the vintage is showing here. Very high acidity, fruit almost completely lacking. I would like to try this in a better year.
