This bottle was shining yesterday. It needed some time but then ut was complex and balanced. Foradori rules.

I really like their Donnas (Nebbiolo).

Late vintage Mourvedre, I had no idea that even existed. Is it sweet then?

For sure, but even the 2016 I had was relatively full-bodied for a “entry-level” wine. Mind you, I only had it once.

They have a top cuvée made of mainly Carignan. Very curious about that one. I will try to taste it at the Foire des Vignerons indépendants in Lille.

It’s a reference in Soave, but I don’t find their wines to be the most representative of the region. I had the Soave Classico, the Massifitti and the Monte Carbonara quite a few years ago. I found them particularly dense, made for the long haul, not at all like most Soave that are rather light/crisp

I guess Italians will now be infuriated because it’s ragu.

It must be really hard to make wine in a region like Fitou. This Noblesse du Temps 2016 is excellent and costs 21,50€ at the winery. Very Bordelais in fact. So why would you buy Fitou at that price point if you can buy Bordeaux at similar price (or cheaper!) and quality?

I really love how Austrian Sauvignon Blanc carved out a place for itself. Still recognisable as SB but so different in character from Loire SB. Riper aromatics (mango!), but still wonderfully fresh and balanced.

These guys in Rioja jumped on the fresh and crisp train. It could be from anywhere.

Oh yes, I do like the 00 ones, they are almost creamy. But indeed, saltier ones go really well with bread and butter.

Good to hear this one wasn’t overoaked. I’ve had several Chablis Grand Cru that I found overoaked, and I don’t understand why they do it. It’s self-defeating and hides all the Chablisian character of the wine.

This was pretty good. Sangiovese from Emilia Romagna. Rather big and bold at this stage with ripe tannins and lifting acidity. Several years left. This is night and day with the Sangiovese of Chiara Condello, but very good in its own way.

Interesting, thanks! Do you find that there’s a difference in the level of saltiness in anchoa? I ate some anchoa in a Basque restaurant yesterday that I found saltier than I remembered them to be in Barcelona.

Do others run into this problem with Cellartracker? I have it quite regularly.

Probably, but I can’t imagine this is good for the general image of Bordeaux. People who start with sweetened reds and like it may end up really disappointed if they move up the ladder.

But these people already have several options, like the ones you mentioned. They must be really desperate there in Bordeaux.

Opened this for with the steak tonight and it’s showing already quite well after 14 years of solitude. Elegant, as you’d expect from Margaux.

Vintage Tunina 2021, Jermann, Friuli. A very unlikely blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malvasia, Ribolla and Picolit. Monocépage drinkers will hate this, but it actually works very well. Very attractive, elegant nose. Perfect balance between freshness and body. Hard not to like this!

Lightness is not the problem, on the contrary. At this price point (>60€) I expect more depth and presence.

Sadie's Grenache 2024 : floral, red cherry, pomegranate. Very fragile, but on the nose it works. On the palate, though, it's lacking depth and length. I was ready to love this wine, as I'm not a fan of Ch9P styled Grenache, but this is just too lean. I hope I'm wrong and that this is just too young.

I agree, air can do alot. Unfortunately that wasn't the case here, as I drank it over several days to find out if it would change.

I liked this less than I thought I would. Great nose, lovely minerality! But a little bit thin on the palate. I like linear and fresh wines, but here there was just something missing.

This is the 2019. I see that there's much bottle variation for these wines, so hopefully yours is a good one. And if not, drink fast 😁

Pop and pour : fantastic. Apricot and orange marmelade. Very lively and uplifting on the palate. After 15 minutes, oh no, mouse. After one hour, getting hard to still enjoy it. This is not ok, is it?

Merci, mon cher! It is very smooth and rich, more than French Cognac. It reminds me a bit of the Plantation XO from Barbados, which happens to be aged in brandy barrels. But then not as sweet as Diplomatico or Appleton rum. Keep you posted about the Barolo.
