Can also recommend using old comics to make notebook covers and bunting.
Notebooks with covers made from an old comic annual Bunting made from an old Browns book.

Ha. Yes, those sorts of stand are fine. I was thinking more of this sort that I see at stations and in the centre of Edinburgh.

It's easy to see how someone with time on their hands could spend all day doing this.
It's one of those phoney Allister Heath headlines that reads "The relentless demonisation of anyone who opposes bumble bees and spring flowers is truly chilling".

I feel the same about self-checkouts in supermarkets - that's someone's job you're helping do away with.
Quote from Jonn's substack. "Well, no. For one thing, driving an Uber may not be the most glamorous or best paid of jobs, but it nonetheless provides flexible income of the sort many people would feel the loss of."

Pretty stark contrast between yesterday's sunrise (red) and today's. I suppose we have Rachel Reeves to blame for that.

Yeah, but I'm glad there's still enough shame attached to it that (at least round my way) they feel the need to deny it. I will say it again if you do not appease me.

This is what I was thinking of. They have a duty to think about it and consult on it but not an explicit duty to have a policy on it. Though it's hard to see how you could properly think about it without a policy on what constitutes overprovision and a blanket, there can never be overprovision.
Excerpt from the Licensing Scotland Act 2005 about overprovision.

A walk around Clackmannan, Fife, yesterday taking in the 14th century Clackmannan Tower and the slightly older Alloa Tower (more details in the alt text). Naturally, the rain came on when I was furthest from my van. #photography
Black and white photograph of the Clackmannan Tower, a historic five-storey tower house situated at the summit of King's Seat Hill in Clackmannan, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. It dates back to at least the 14th century when it was inhabited by King David II of Scotland and later sold to his cousin Robert Bruce, 2nd Baron of Clackmannan in 1359.

Alloa Tower in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, in central Scotland, is an early 14th-century tower house that served as the medieval residence of the Erskine family, later Earls of Mar. Retaining its original timber roof and battlements, the tower is one of the earliest and largest Scottish tower houses, with immensely thick walls.

Feeling a wee bit guilty that I keep getting followed by photographers and I haven't posted any photos so here's an old one that I took in the Sistine Chapel. The tourists and the guards were almost more interesting than the chapel. #photography

Feels like a new level of credulous churnalism to use this as the opening paragraph to a story about Edinburgh Airport hiking its drop-off charge to £6 for 10 minutes.
Screenshot of STV website reads: "Edinburgh Airport’s pick-up and drop-off charges are set to increase to encourage visitors to use public transport."

Nice list. Not suprised by most of it but I wasn't expecting @traceythorn.bsky.social's boy to be number 2 but he never disappoints with any songs.

The best thing about making bread is halfway through. You take the top off the pot and find out what you've got today. This looks like it'll be a good one.

The height data is not measured, it's modelled. Source unclear. No-one measures to a millionth of a centimetre. Age five is cherry-picked because it is the largest "decline". The decline from peak in 2013 in 5-year-old boys is -3mm. The reported error in the data in 2019 is ±6mm. More in alt text.
This shows the modelled estimate of height in 5 year old boys. The estimate peaks in 2013 at 112.8 cm ±2mm. The decline in height is only 3mm but the last column shows the estimated accuracy of the estimate is ±6mm so the difference is easily explained by the statistical error in the estimate. But you also have to ask why the estimate is getting less accurate over time. At the same time as children are supposed to be getting shorter, the error in the estimate has trebled from ±2mm to ±6mm. So the underlying data used to generate the estimate is less accurate. There's no explanation in the dataset. But whatever is causing the inaccuracy in the data, there's nothing in this data that suggests children are actually getting shorter and if you look at other age groups, you have to ask why they don't also show the same decline over the same period. Children don't stop growing until their late teens. Where are the stunted 12 year olds?

More people hanging out in the back lanes of Edinburgh. The contrast between the front (George Street) and the back is always a surprise.

And another.
An early morning black and white photograph of a man sitting by the upstairs window of a coffee shop in Edinburgh working on a laptop. The large windows almost fill the frame and the man is tucked into the bottom left corner of one of them, lit by streetlights and the subdued lighting in the room.
