Here is Dr. Henry's presser today on BC's fall vaccine program. For some inexplicable reason, it is an unlisted "secret" video on YouTube. I can't think of any good reason for the BC NDP to hide this when they should want everyone to see it 🤷‍♂️ www.youtube.com/live/m-eB5GL...

This might be one of the funniest chart about energy scenarios I’ve seen. You can hardly see “actual” for gas

Winners and Losers
The IEA overestimated gas growth in Asia and underestimated solar

Gas
• Forecast 547 TWh
• Actual 17 TWh

Solar
• Forecast 465 TWh
• Actual 1,333 TWh

Note: Shows expected growth in Asian power generation between 2018 and 2025, based on actual 2018 generation, actual 2025 generation, and the 2018 World Energy Outlook's Current Policies Scenario estimates for 2025. Actual 2025 generation figures are from Ember.

Hey leftists, it’s ok to discuss disagreements about strategy, but if you say people who take COVID precautions: - are too scared to leave the house - demand that everyone wear a mask 24/7 - are terrified of a just a "cold" You are using far right anti-science talking points.

It's still bizarre that we can't get Novavax in Canada. Cheaper, fewer side effects, at least as effective (if not moreso), provides an alternative for people who are averse to mRNA for any reason

Just a few moments that stuck out to me from today's #MillionsMissing rally in Vancouver: Dr. Susan Kuo from @protectbc.bsky.social, describing how the burden of disease & disability for #LongCovid has surpassed cancer & heart disease, without any commensurate investment in research or care. 1/8

The livestream of Millions Missing Vancouver 2025 plays on a large monitor, with a dim red-lit room behind it. On the screen, a speaker with long rainbow hair, a black respirator, red top, crochet sweater and blue jeans is holding a microphone and reads a speech. Around the speaker is a red millions missing banner, a sun shade, another speaker waiting, a sign saying We Are #MillionsMissing, and in the background, an awning with long garlands of red posters.

It pains me to say this, but if you are not a US citizen, you should not attend scientific conferences in the US, visit US institutions, or otherwise travel to our country. Right now it's not worth the risk. Hopefully that will change. If it doesn't, science in the US is sunk anyway.

Man, this is a pretty fucking gross move from Amazon, huh? Good on @bookshop.org for not mincing words, though:

Every April, we celebrate Independent Bookstore Day to remind us how vital indie bookstores are to our communities and society. It’s a day of joy and solidarity, and significant financial impact for these bookstores.

This year, Amazon is undercutting that with a “Book Sale” on the same day—a calculated move by a company that has already put half the bookstores in the country out of business, controls over 60% of the market and sells far more books than all indie bookstores combined. The people at Amazon responsible for the timing of their "Book Sale" should be ashamed, but they are shameless.

Goddammit. An RCT for a vaccine is a foolish and wasteful and useless activity. Let’s be clear: this is the end run around vaccines. This is the anti-vax playbook. They want RCTs (which will necessarily cause harm since some people will get placebo and thus get sick) for all vaccines.

This is not a failure of communication. It is a failure of public health leadership to understand, acknowledge, and follow science. That is not a communications problem. They have been told directly, many times, that N95s and clean indoor air are critical. They are willfully ignoring the science.

It's amazing how much 'first past the post' elections poison our political environment. Canada does, as Ryan says, have a multiparty parliamentary system. The problem is that because of FPTP, this multiparty system seems to function like a two-party system in practice. Not always, but usually.
