Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Hopefully that helps… like I very much see where the similarities to disassociation come in, but trauma disassociation is different in the way that a helium balloon isn’t a rocketship. Both are Outside the Self but one still hasn’t “left orbit” of the gravity/atmosphere of the ego to see outside it. 021
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I’ve watched a friend go thru ego death. They couldn’t talk; talking requires distinguishing your body/tongue/mind as 1 entity, inhabiting that entity, having thoughts, telling it to speak. They are in a state much like an astronaut outside the planet; they’d need to first “land” back in their body. 100
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 22/09/2026If you have depersonalisation without the sense of transcendence that’s often called the “dark night of the soul” and considered like… the ego death han’t been integrated. Ego death is a specific journey with an end point, a return; not a perpetual state of being. 100
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 22/09/2026It is both different from disassociation (associated with childhood trauma) and can also contain elements of it. In ego death there is often a sense of merging with the universe/the divine, transcending the boundaries of 1 body/mind. Being one with every rock & stars all at once. 100
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Maybe he just needs a few different angles rather than one perfect song? I don’t think many songs hold that particular mix of arrogance & yearning together at once But to add to suggestions: Lick U Clean by Kidneythieves I think captures Ares trying to lure Xena back to her warrior ways 000
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Yeah I feel about games the way a lot of people feel about movies. Gamers and movie buffs both make them an identity but they don’t have to be an identity to be enjoyable or have value. And something doesn’t have to last forever to have been worthwhile. If it was good at the time, that’s good enough 010
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Yeah honestly it’s a train wreck that’s hard to look away from so i get it. Does give very little back as an activity 😅🤷 010
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I hiiighly recommend Mortal Engines if they like adventure/action and stories that don’t require female protagonists to be pretty to have value. I think it’s prime content for ages 13-16 especially but i sometimes re-read as an adult and still have a good time. 110

Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Deleted some thoughts- I veered off target. It’s an evocative topic. Article is written by one with experience who is perhaps trying to place the alternate world of madness into a non-pathologised context & I appreciate that has value. Just: surely people are tired of the male-only shadow-plays. 010
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Philosophy is well-known as a profession that relies on privilege and power to pursue. The domestic caretaking required to pass through madness & back out again is significant. Meanwhile, feminist philosophers are so often forced to reclaim our mental freedom from the assignation of domestic labour 110
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 15/09/2026It’s really interesting to me that every philosopher I recognised in this piece is male. Not that female philosophers are immune to professional risks but it recalls to mind Lord of the Flies as a hypothesis not on children’s behaviour, but specifically of privileged male behaviour. 130

Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 06/09/2026I think it’s why conventions are such good roleplaying spaces, because they’re contained away from regular life which helps uphold the magic circle. But my regular groups, we depend on the OOC chatter, or debriefs at pub afterwards the same length as the game, where we go be ourselves together. 010
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Yeah totally. I think of it often as a natural limitation of the magic circle. Like an enchanted forest, you can go there & be transformed together, but you can’t live there. You need normalcy, the work of the everyday, where you implement the transformations and make the lessons mean something. 110
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 05/09/2026If you do take a break this year, i hope you can find ways to stay connected regardless :) 110
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 05/09/2026There’s pathways it offers to be new selves with old friends; to collaborate & decorate time together with play. Which I think has a lot to offer for friends who are caught up on one’s news, just want to coexist & grow together. But w/out time together outside play, the self can feel neglected. 220
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 05/09/2026There’s definitely times when I feel that too - where I need to be “me” and to feel accepted as just that - I do think it’s coincided strongly with depression; & in those states, routine, rigid social behaviour structures can turn into stifling obligation. Breaks are important, then. 120

Both women are in their 90s now & in their twilight, so it’s been a while since my family’s had contact with her. Bless her, she helped my mum at a tough time! It takes a village & all. 010
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 03/09/2026They’re just shorts - the algorithm factors the format, and they’re easier to rewatch, boosting the numbers. Silly shit in general tends to do better numbers than more serious art though, in my experience 😅 000
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 25/08/2026It’s all a shell game anyway because the free dental clinics already exist, they just have massive waitlists and staff shortages due to a lack of competitive wages. They’ll pump in the bare minimum lifeboat funding to stop the clinics running further into the ground & consider that a promise kept 000
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 23/08/2026That all sounds really lovely! It’s wonderful when change makes tangible widespread improvements for everybody long term ☺️ 010
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 22/08/2026On the one hand it fills me with peace that so many tiny little things peacefully + silently cooperate on the fundamentals of living, and have done so for millennia, & I’d like to keep that energy going But there’s still the cosmic horror of Knowing & being unable to truly comprehend its scale 111
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 21/08/2026And then there’s “what is monstrous?” - familiarity found in misunderstood villains for the marginalised. Particularly relatable to people pleasers is the monster whose natural needs are at odds with others - when we’ve been made to feel monstrous for having our own needs, it’s a mirror to the self 100
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Reminds me of a comment thread I saw full of ppl talking about being kidnapped by their parents’ drug dealers, who treated them better than their parents 😮💨 that in these stories of rescue from a “monster” there is a sense of the familiar, of something reachable, something from our own dark worlds. 100

Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 20/08/2026However long it’s been, I can still feel humbled in my trauma healing journey by the casual reflexive kindnesses of people who grew up fully loved & supported. Like the phrase “let’s find out together” 😭 straight to the soul, that one. 040
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Only 15 minutes, but that feels like an eon even you’ve got to pack up on time to keep good with the venue 🤪 the sobering realities of healthy logistics is a very effective closer 😅 000
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Players never wanting to be limited by time is so relatable… 😂 I guess, when your players go wild and want to live in the magic circle of play forever, you know you’ve got ‘em good, as a GM in any format 🙂↕️😅 100

Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Mmm yes. Many whole & fragile multidisciplinary systems needed both in process, & in end result. And without a vision how can success reaching that vision be measured, or how far its fall? Game design is so often a team sport too… so many ways it fundamentally differs as an activity. 000

Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 06/08/2026They’ve accepted it fine so far. Many know on some level that knowledge is one of the keys to class liberation, it’s how they or their kids (like me) have gotten opportunities. But admitting misunderstanding is difficult. It takes some careful discussion when about online disinformation campaigns. 000
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 05/08/2026It wasn’t “left out”. Please don’t jump to assuming my own class/disability status and how it informs my perspective. 000
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 05/08/2026I struggle to imagine how the conversations I had to have with my own community and peers would have gone any easier if I had called them stupid instead. 100
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 05/08/2026As a working class person with mental health issues, who talked directly with neighbours taken in by this exact conspiracy after lockdowns - expressed genuine fear & powerlessness behind it - how is it not ableist or classist to call them “stupid” and “gullible” instead of attending to their needs? 100
Rhydian @indigodecay.bsky.social · 05/08/2026It’s not by coincidence that such conspiracies are associated with working class people vulnerable to mental health problems. It is easier to throw stones than to unpack. The best inoculation for communities against conspiracy is education; the second best is compassion. 130
