I love my mom, I wish she was still with us, but between her & dad, we're left scrambling across the country trying to account for their various expenses & assets just to keep dad's care paid for. Without any of us going bankrupt in the process.

Finally, put together (4) A file containing the name of every company you have an account with & the account number. More information is better, but this is the minimum. This is literally the bare minimum you can do for those you love so that you avoid becoming a burden rather than a beloved parent

And then there's (2) A Living Will - this tells people what you want to have happen to you if you can no longer care for yourself because of injury, age, or mental disability. Also (3) A regular will - this makes sure your assets are all accounted for and passed on to those you wish to have them.

And to that end, I have some "neat trips & tips to getting Old As Fuck" that you can use to not become a burden on those around you. Starting with (1) Long Term Care (Elder Care) Insurance - this pays for you to be put into a home when you get old & it's cheaper the younger you are when you buy it.

Since then, dad's been locked away in a special care facility for violent elders with memory issues, and mom died in my sister's spare room after months of agony from assorted injuries & illnesses. I would imagine you'd like to avoid putting your loved one's through all this.

My brother & I have been doing what we can to help my sister deal with this situation, even if we're terrible at communicating, don't know the first thing about elder care (even if my sister is a professional EMT), and our parents gave us zero insight into what they wanted in their later years.

The fuck do I mean by that? Well, in the last 9 months or so, my parents nearly froze to death, were hospitalized, and ultimately my father tried to fight the hospital staff. So they were remanded to my sister's care. With zero planning or forethought invested in this decision.

I've been sharing this on a number of discord channels, as well as in a work email. And I'll readily admit that I'm doing it in part because I think it's helping me process my mom's passing. You need to plan for losing your mind & eventually dying. As well as your loved ones doing the same.

On the positive, I got to take my wife up Beartooth Pass (we didn't reach the summit, I wasn't comfortable with the wind conditions & my lack of experience mountain driving). We also got to spend most of a day with my niece, visiting the local zoo, getting her crafting supplies, threatening... 2/3
