is anyone talking about this variety.com/2024/music/n...

Longtime Taylor Swift writer Rob Sheffield argues that boys are not the main characters in many of her songs, but instead "blank spaces for the girls to find their own identity in":

"She doesn’t have a lot of interest in making these boys the characters of the songs. It’s always the girls in the songs who are the characters. Really, the boy is just there to get her from one end of the song to the other — just there to get a song started. Even from the very first one I heard, the one that made me a fan, my origin story as a fan: 'Our Song.' The song ends with her actually writing 'Our Song,' and then we know we’re never gonna hear about this boy again. He’s served his purpose! He’s helped her become a songwriter, and she’s got the song and she’s moving on. We see that all through these things that the boys are just there for the girls to have this kind of self-discovery process, that the boys are really just blank spaces for the girls to find their own identity in. When people used to say 'Taylor writes songs about boys,' I would sometimes say — to be a bit flippant a bit — she never writes any songs about boys. It’s always about the girl in the song and whatever project for her the boy represents. She just doesn’t have that much interest in male characters at all."

pretty please zoom to read before following! I just pieced this little intro thingy together very quickly, pls excuse the horrendous formatting <3 also my user on the bird app is @/inacrowdedroom_

About Me:
Hi, I’m iz / izzy! I’m 25, a leftist, a lesbian, and use she/her pronouns. Also I’m a zillennial who doesn’t gaf about being cringe lol!
I follow back IF you have your twitter user shared so that I can see if I’m blocked for being a gaylor.
I don’t argue with people, I just scroll or block to protect my peace and yours.

This is my “do not interact” list: hetlors, travwives, late stage kaylors, zionosts, and conservatives.

I’m a gaylor (anti-lsk) and I don’t care if you’re a tayvis BUT I might mute you simply because I’m a misandrist, and I hate seeing his cop-like face I’m sorry 😭 (genuine).
I’m not a performanceartlor but I don’t care if you are (I think tayvis is PR but I don’t care if you do or don’t agree).
I’m a larry (like I think they dated way back in the day, but hey what do I know?)

These are the fandoms I’m a part of:
gaylor (in a bilor way); halsey since 2015; chappell; one direction / larry; superhero shows/movies: agatha all along and marvel (but boycotting marvel right now); supergirl (I love supercorp) and other corny cw DC shows; and heartstopper (peripherally).
