This is exactly what I saw in Los Angeles last year. Some people are saying this looks like the lead up to the events in Minnesota. This is not the America I was taught to believe in. This is shameful to support state violence against people who haven’t committed any crime.

Protestors are being pushed out into the road specifically as traffic is oncoming. Hostages on hunger & labor strike are being tortured. There is leaked audio of grown men begging for help while being assaulted. ICE is trying to break up the strike by spraying pepper spray and closing the vents.

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.

i wrote this in late february. now the wave is really crashing. and it still feels like far too many people are pretending it’s not.

I recently told someone that being a journalist right now is like standing on the edge of a beach and watching a tsunami approaching. Other journalists, government workers and activists are on the shoreline with me, and we can all see it clear as day. And we agree we need to warn the others inland.
So we start making calls and telling people this catastrophic wave is about to hit, but the people inland still can’t see it and don’t believe us. Everything looks fine where they are; it’s dry and comfortable. “Let us know when it gets closer,” they say. We try to communicate that every moment of preparation counts, but it’s no use. They’ll only believe it when it’s crashing on their heads.
This week feels like the wave is about to crash.

Me: I don't get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I'm like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now?

The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it's the fascism. You're completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you're also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you're going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances.

Me: BUT I HAVE A BULLET JOURNAL AND I MEDITATE NOW.

Add onto that the most affordable method of travel would be trains or buses. Places in which people are not required to make accessible by masking. What am I supposed to do? Walk to Canada or Mexico? No. They expect us to let society ease its way closer back to ugly laws and eugenics.

Los Angeles, CA - You heard it here first folks. Protesters ran into an apartment building were initially detained, but were let in by residents of the apartment building and then were sheltered by residents in the building. LAPD has given up on the detainments and are gone now.

I have a couple of chronic conditions and so every 6 months I get a call from a nurse at my health insurance company offering “support and education”. I treat these calls like I would treat an encounter with the police: I don’t talk to them. Am I missing out by not taking these calls?
