Someone asked me what kind of snare I have, and it might be hard to find? I'm not much of a gear head, bought it ~10 years ago & just absolutely clueless about this stuff. It appears to be a Ludwig Supralite that's either 4in by 14in, or 4.5in by 14in (I'm dumb & don't know how depth is measured).

At 3:30 EST / 7:30 GMT (a little under 2 hours from now), I'll be revisiting the Dark Souls 15th Anniversary mod! I had a lot of fun playing this a couple weeks ago, but today is the 15th Anniversary of Dark Souls' release in the US, so today is the actual anniversary of when I first played it.

I have no idea how much bsky compression will hurt this comparison, but I just threw this together. The issue is that the OST often just plays 25% pulse waves when in-game it switches to 12.5%. Meaning, the wrong instrument or timbre is often playing. (credit to Melody Man on YT for Wii recording)

Random Dark Souls observation: I somehow never noticed that the boulder Infested Barbarians are significantly larger than the club-wielding ones, lol. I think the large rock above their heads sorta dwarfs them in a way to make the difference less obvious, at least that seems to have happened to me.

Hell yeah. Risaia is spelled differently here, as Lizaia, so Istarel/ Istarelle went through the same inconsistent translation.

I think VS. Platoon is very rare! I love the VS arcade cabinets, NES games are their own vibe distinct from normal arcade games, so there's always been a novelty for me in seeing NES hardware in an actual arcade unit. I always try to play VS. Castlevania when I make it to Magfest.

That's all to say, I'm very stoked about returning to Demon's Souls like this. I learned so much about Dark Souls 1 from those streams, and the same will happen here. Like what even is this little box? Does it serve a purpose, or is it cut content? We'll be figuring out a lot of stuff like that.

Most lighting changes that people take issue with are the result of an overhaul to the lighting systems and how some textures are handled, not hands-on changes to specific setpieces. However, QLOC did add a couple completely-new point lights to the game, and this is another one of those.

Here's another lighting change between the original Dark Souls & the remaster, this time for the worse. While the remaster is known for having some issues with the lighting, I should clarify that the particular kind of change seen here is actually quite rare, which is why I find it interesting:

Dark Souls, Prepare to Die edition is on the left, comparison screenshot from Dark Souls remastered is on the right. The hallway was made a little brighter in the remaster, but things overall look more washed out, and the enemy in the hallway became harder to see, blending in instead of being contrast against a dark background.

Here's a pretty subtle lighting change between vanilla and the Dark Souls remaster: They made the exit to the Asylum Demon's room a little brighter by adding a point light floating in front of it. It illuminates the doorway itself a bit better, and also lights the ground in front of it.

There's something really satisfying about playing the hi-hat/ tambourine in a way that turns the beat around. I was originally playing it every quarter note, which means it didn't have that effect. But suddenly playing every-other-hit turned it into another 3 against 4 beat. #illusorydrumming

Every time it happens, I see some people surprised or confused about why a movie trailer gets its own teaser 24 hours prior, basically announcing that the full trailer drops tomorrow or whatever. Maybe it's just youtuber brain here, but it makes sense to me, so I wanna talk about why it's a thing.

Very cool NES game with an extremely cursed password screen. 66 characters, and doesn't omit things that can be easily confused as it includes upper and lowercase letters and numbers. l, I, 1, O, o, 0, V, v etc. 💀 Unfortunate excessive sprite slowdown, especially in 2 player mode as well.
