Happy Election Day! Early in-person voting is done, and the numbers from the SOS this morning should be nearly final (some counties are stragglers on reporting). We had 162k, which is well above Aug 24 (63k), but below the historically high Aug 22 (215k). ike-lab.com/dailyev_2608... #ksleg

We've posted data on the Friday advance voting report for Kansas. Yesterday, Rs passed Ds in ballots cast, which is late compared to recent primaries. Of those who voted in 2024, 15.6% of Ds have voted, compared to 8.7% of Republicans and 4.9% of unaffiliateds. #ksleg ike-lab.com/dailyev_2608...

It is still early, but we can compare first reports to the past. There are slightly more requested ballots than the 2024 primary, but less than 60% of 2022. 2022 had an anti-abortion amendment (which failed), and this year's amendment would likely have the same effect if it passed. #ksleg

There are big primaries for both parties, including for an open governor's seat. Maybe even bigger is a constitutional amendment to move the state supreme court from a merit/retention system to nonpartisan elections - Republicans are looking to push the court more conservative with the change.

The advance voting period for Kansas's primary begins today! We've got the first report from the SOS on the number of requested mail ballots. As is usual, we don't have numbers from every county yet, but we've got 87/105, including the biggest ones in the state. ike-lab.com/dailyev_2608... #ksleg
