Happy Election Day! Early in-person voting is done, and the numbers from the SOS this morning should be nearly final (some counties are stragglers on reporting). We had 162k, which is well above Aug 24 (63k), but below the historically high Aug 22 (215k). ike-lab.com/dailyev_2608... #ksleg

We've posted data on the Friday advance voting report for Kansas. Yesterday, Rs passed Ds in ballots cast, which is late compared to recent primaries. Of those who voted in 2024, 15.6% of Ds have voted, compared to 8.7% of Republicans and 4.9% of unaffiliateds. #ksleg ike-lab.com/dailyev_2608...

We're behind on getting 2024 results mapped and broken down by various district types, but we're making progress! We've finished rebuilding our precinct maps from scratch, attempting to have geography for every possible ballot type in the state - about 7,200 total!

Read through the Mulvane information too quickly, there were actually two propositions on the ballot. Here is the second one.
Shall Unified School District No. 263, Sedgwick County, Kansas (Mulvane), issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $9,280,000 to pay a portion of the estimated $9,560,132 costs to:  (a) construct, equip and furnish a new Early Childhood Center on property within the District; (b) make all other necessary improvements appurtenant thereto; and (c) pay financing costs of issuance and capitalized interest affiliated with such general obligation bonds; all pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 10‑101 et seq., K.S.A. 25‑2018(f), K.S.A. 72‑5457, and K.S.A. 72‑5458 et seq.?  The balance of the costs shall be paid with interest earned on the reinvestment of the bond proceeds prior to expenditure.

We're tracking four school bond measures today: USD 261 (Haysville), USD 263 (Mulvane), USD 436 (Caney Valley), and USD 499 (Galena)! #ksleg
Shall Unified School District No. 261, Sedgwick County, Kansas (Haysville), issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $79,725,000 to pay a portion of the estimated $80,150,000 costs to:  (a) construct, equip and furnish additions to existing buildings within the District; (b) make improvements, repairs or upgrades to District buildings as needed for roofing, mechanical and other infrastructure systems, and building interiors and exteriors; (c) make needed improvements to District playgrounds and parking lots; (d) construct and equip improvements to existing physical education/athletic facilities within the District; (e) make all other necessary improvements appurtenant thereto (the “Project”); and pay financing costs of issuance affiliated with the general obligation bonds of the District; all pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 10‑101 et seq., K.S.A. 25‑2018(f), K.S.A. 72‑5457, and K.S.A. 72‑5458 et seq.?  The balance of the estimated costs of the Project will be paid with interest earned on the reinvestment of bond proceeds prior to expenditure.Shall Unified School District No. 263, Sedgwick County, Kansas (Mulvane), issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $50,390,000 to pay a portion of the estimated $51,910,429 costs to:  (a) demolish a major portion of the existing Mulvane Middle School and construct, equip, and furnish new educational and support spaces and make improvements to provide a secured entrance to the building, construct and equip a new storm shelter area, and install intruder locks in all classrooms for enhanced safety and security; (b) make improvements to the existing Mulvane Munson Primary School, including but not limited to upgrades or improvements to restrooms, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and install intruder locks in all classrooms for enhanced safety and security; (c) make improvements to the existing Mulvane Grade School, including but not limited to constructing, equipping and furnishing a new Administration addition, a secure building entrance, improvements to the existing connecting corridor, HVAC systems, restrooms, and install intruder locks in all classrooms for enhanced safety and security; (d) make improvements to the existing Mulvane High School, including but not limited to replacement of the building’s roof, upgrades to the Auditorium lighting and sound systems, HVAC systems, restrooms, and install intruder locks to all classrooms for enhanced safety and security; (e) make all other necessary improvements appurtenant thereto; and (f) pay financing costs of issuance and capitalized interest affiliated with such general obligation bonds; all pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 10‑101 et seq., K.S.A. 25‑2018(f), K.S.A. 72‑5457, and K.S.A. 72‑5458 et seq.?  The balance of the costs shall be paid with interest earned on the reinvestment of the bond proceeds prior to expenditure.Shall Unified School District No. 436, Montgomery County, Kansas (Caney Valley), issue
general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $32,385,000, to pay the costs to
acquire, construct, equip and install additions, renovations and improvements (a) to the
district junior/senior high school campus, including a multisport/wrestling room addition,
and a storm shelter, locker rooms and restrooms addition; auditorium, weight room,
band/music room, family and consumer sciences kitchen, library, science room, training
room, coaches' offices, and locker room renovations and improvements; academic success
room/library and kitchen renovations; and parking lot, sidewalk, signage and Caney Valley
West campus concrete pad improvements; (b) to the junior/senior high school campus
athletic complex, including a stadium entrance, locker rooms, new home team bleachers
on west side, lighting, scoreboard, sidewalks, artificial turf field, track improvements, new
baseball and softball facility improvements, and a new concessions building; and ( c) to the
district elementary school, including secured main entrance additions and an addition with
storm shelter/band room, cafeteria, kitchen, and restroom improvements; commons area
and main entrance, gymnasium, science classroom, SPED classroom and restroom, and
other restroom renovations and improvements; updated playground for younger students
and new and relocated playground for older students, and parking, sidewalks, front
entrance canopy, landscaping and other site improvements; to purchase buses; to pay costs
of all other necessary and related improvements; and to pay financing costs of issuance and
capitalized interest affiliated with the general obligation bonds; all pursuant to the
provisions ofK.S.A. 10-101 et seq., K.S.A. 25-201 8(£), K.S.A. 72-5457 and K.S.A. 72-
5458 et seq.?Shall Unified School District No. 499, Cherokee County, Kansas (Galena) (the “District”) be authorized to issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $7,500,000 (the “Bonds”) to pay the costs to construct, furnish and equip: (a) Liberty Elementary repairs and improvements to renovate aging conditions of the facility, including roof repairs, HVAC replacement, window and elevator replacement, and gymnasium upgrades; (b) safety and security improvements to the existing covered walkway connecting Liberty Elementary to the High School, including the addition of a new canopy on the East side of the High School to improve safety and ADA access; (c) removal of modular trailers at Spring Grove for the construction of a new Early Childhood facility, to include storm shelters and playgrounds; (d) removal of modular trailers East of Liberty Elementary and the renovation of space within the existing Gene Russell Library for the addition of new classroom spaces to accommodate special education programs; and (e) make all other necessary improvements related thereto (collectively the “Project”); and pay costs of issuance and interest on the Bonds during construction of the Project, all pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 10 101 et seq., K.S.A. 25 2018(f), K.S.A. 72 5457, and K.S.A. 72 5458 et seq.?

Good morning! We're tracking four special elections today: a sales tax measure in Lenexa (Johnson Co), a measure to sell a park in Westwood (Johnson Co), and school bond elections for USD 226 (Meade) and USD 231 (Gardner Edgerton)! #ksleg
Shall the City of Lenexa, Kansas (“City”) be authorized to renew the levy of a three-eighths of one percent (0.375%) general purpose City Retailers’ Sales Tax within the City, and to use the revenue from the tax, in whole or in part with any other funds for general City purposes, including but not limited to:

(a) to fund street infrastructure improvements including the maintenance and rebuilding of roads, sidewalks, storm water facilities, and street lighting;

(b) the development and maintenance of park and recreation facilities, including trails, parks, and playgrounds; and

(c) all things related to and necessary to construct and finance such projects including bonds and other obligations;

Provided that such tax shall take effect October 1, 2028, the day following the expiration of the existing three-eighths of one percent (0.375%) general purpose City Retailers’ Sales Tax and such tax shall expire 20 years later on September 30, 2048.Shall the following be adopted?

“whether the Joe D. Sedgwick County has posted the final results from the USD 259 bond vote from a couple weeks ago - it failed, falling less than 350 votes shy of a majority out of 28,000. They've also posted results by precinct, which we've mapped here. #ksleg
usd 259 school bond vote results. yes: 13,889, no: 14,208. Downtown Wichita had the strongest yes, with support decreasing as you move to the edges of the district.

USD 235 (Uniontown, Bourbon County) had a special bond election on Tuesday, which looks to have passed - the unofficial results went 211 yes, 104 no. #ksleg

Shall Unified School District No. 259, Sedgwick County, Kansas (Wichita) (the “District”), issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $450,000,000, to pay the costs to make improvements in the District, including the following: (a) construct, furnish and equip new facilities, including a Trades Future Ready Center and an Early Childhood Center; (b) upgrade, remodel, rebuild, renovate, improve, equip, consolidate and/or construct additions to District facilities; (c) acquire and improve sites as needed; (d) make all other necessary improvements related thereto; and (e) pay fees, costs and expenses incidental thereto; all pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 10-101 et seq., K.S.A. 25-2018(f), K.S.A. 72-5457, and K.S.A. 72-5458 et seq.?

Yesterday the city of Gardner in Johnson County had a special election to renew a 0.5% sales tax for city infrastructure. The unofficial results show an easy passage, 1,717-817. #ksleg
Shall the City of Gardner, Kansas be authorized to renew the levy of a one-half of one percent (0.5%) retailers' sales tax within the City of Gardner for the special purpose of funding City infrastructure, including the construction, repairing, rebuilding, rehabilitating, upgrading and improvement of streets, curbs, sidewalks, and walking, jogging and biking trails; such retailers' sales tax shall take effect on January 1, 2026, or as soon thereafter as permitted by law, and will replace the current one-half of one percent (0.5%) special purpose sales tax currently in place which expires on December 31, 2025, and shall end ten years after its commencement; such tax shall be levied pursuant to K.S.A. 12-187, et seq.?

Another election from Tuesday - USD 111 (Doniphan West) had a $6.3M school bond vote, which looks to have failed by a large margin, 130-348.
Shall Unified School District No. 111, Doniphan County, Kansas (Doniphan West) (the “District”) be
authorized to issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $6,300,000 (the “Bonds”) to pay
the costs to: (a) construct, furnish, and equip improvements and renovations to the Junior/Senior High
School and the Doniphan West Elementary School facilities, including safety and security improvements,
site, utility and infrastructure improvements, interior and exterior building improvements, and lighting,
technology and HVAC improvements; (b) construct, furnish, equip and acquire other necessary renovations
and improvements to District facilities; (c) make all other necessary improvements appurtenant thereto
(collectively the “Project”); and (d) pay costs of issuance and interest on the Bonds during construction of

The special election season in Kansas is underway! The calendar is starting to fill up with school bond and municipal sales tax questions - today is one from Abilene (Ike's hometown!), looking to approve a 0.35% sales tax for recreation facility improvements.
Shall a special purpose retailers’ sales tax in the amount of three and one half tenths of one percent (0.35%) (e.g., $0.35 on a $100.00 purchase) be levied in the City of Abilene, Kansas to take effect July 1, 2025 or as soon thereafter as such tax may be levied by the Kansas Department of Revenue, with revenue from such tax used for the purpose of funding recreation facility improvements, to include multi-purpose fields, with the means and methods to accomplish said purpose to be determined in the sole discretion of the Governing Body of the City; and provided that such retailers’ sales tax shall expire on the date ten years after it is first levied, all pursuant to K.S.A. 12-187 et seq., as amended?

Wichita Eagle article titled "Elector Too Late to Cast Nixon Vote". Brief summary: Tony Mesa couldn't find parking, didn't get to the SOS office until 12:17, but electors have to cast their votes at noon, so he had been replaced.

It's results collection season! For the next couple months, the project will be to collect results, organize them in our database, and post them to the site. We're also building our precinct maps up from scratch to align with the voter registration file, which we'll keep updated monthly afterward.

Week 1 of advance voting reporting wrapped up this morning. Not many votes cast so far, but they will take off next week, as people receive their mail ballots and counties like Johnson start in-person early voting over the weekend. Check out the site: ike-lab.com/dailyev_2411...
