One other reason I like this game: Fox's very V3-coded color palette.

Night in the Woods- Unlike the others in the list, I've only played this one once (so far). But it left such an impact on me, I still haven't gotten it out of my head yet. The creative visuals, the beautiful soundtrack, the quirky characters and the offbeat approach to the story all just clicked. 🧵

SF Assault- Funny Animal Space War! I have a soft spot for Star Fox, and especially GC-era Star Fox. After the wacky, charming Adventures, Assault goes for more heavy sci-fi action with stellar visual presentation (those designs!) The multiplayer is a blast. Also, the music: youtu.be/Hl6iW0kYAmo?...

RDR2- Once again, I could also go with the first one here, because both are very good at combining grounded western simulation with total insanity, yet somehow also making you tear up. But I have played 2 through twice, and 100%'d it both times, somehow. An epic in the truest sense of the word.

Symphony of the Night- I have a lot of love for the classic Castlevanias, Rondo is also VERY good, and SotN is where Everything Changed (TM) and we are now 18th century Samus, but not without good reason- this game kicks ass! A feast for the eyes and ears. Now turn upside-down and read that again.

Genealogy of Justice- you knew it was coming. While it has aged as a game (It's like Resident Evil 2, on the PS2!) it is timeless as a Kamen Rider adventure. A great (and FUN) story, an impressive cast of OGs, fantastic art direction, top-notch music, and the kind of deep cuts that make me go ❕❕❕

Kingdom Hearts- later games improve on the mechanics and such, but the first one is special. It kind of stands alone- if this had been all there was, I'd be okay with that. It really does find this perfect balance of stories I enjoyed as a child and stories I enjoyed when I got older. Kinda magical.

Metroid Fusion- Super holds greater nostalgic value and Zero Mission is hot on its heels, but I always find myself going back to Fusion. It just has this incredibly distinct atmosphere to it. The way the story unfolds, while more talky than usual, really lands. The whole final act is just fantastic.

Like to the Past- Even putting aside the manga adaptation connection, this is one that has always stuck with me, and I'm definitely not alone in that feeling. Great dungeon and enemy designs, a fantastic soundtrack, and oodles of charm. Also, defeating Agahnim with the bug-catching net.

Final Fantasy VI- Honestly could have gone a number of ways here (IV, V, and IX all rank very highly) but I always return to VI. It just nails everything it sets out to do. The story, the characters, the humor, the emotion, the music, the ending. It still plays great & looks amazing. A masterpiece.

The 9 games that have had a profound effect on me that just edged out the other dozens of games that also have had a profound effect on me (long explanation to follow)

Top row: Final Fantasy VI, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Metroid Fusion
Middle row: Kingdom Hearts, Kamen Rider: Genealogy of Justice, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Bottom row: Red Dead Redemption 2, Star Fox Assault, Night in the Woods

Kind of amazed Marvel and DC didn't go the other way with their collaborations, because "Ultraman meets Superman" and "Spider-Man and Kamen Rider 2 vs Shocker and Kumo-Otoko" seem like such no-brainers.

Tsuburaya is rolling out a version of their Imagination streaming service for Amazon Prime! But... it's basically just a stripped-down version of the basic plan. Ultraman and original Imagination-exclusive productions only, and fewer episodes than even the standalone version. m-78.jp/news/post-7964

This is getting off track into even bigger issues, like will anyone in 20-30 years still know how to make tokusatsu once the current guard retires? Is Sentai returning? Beats me! But at least for now, Kamen Rider will keep speeding along, even if I have less time to keep up with it regularly. 😑

040

It's in all the other various side projects that more risks can be taken, more creative ideas pushed, because the franchise isn't riding on them the same way it is with the main series. But again, I also think that approach will eventually change. Some traditions (like a winter movie) have stoppd.

110

I do feel there will be a shift and Kamen Rider a decade or two from now may look vastly different to that of a decade or two prior to Zeztz. There has to be, because society and culture change, and media changes with it. But it will be gradual. Even with new tricks, the safety wheels stay on.

110

And I get why- trading a commercially-successful formula for creative risk-taking is easier said than done. The 2027 show coming out and being like "this year: 1 Rider, no final form, we're prioritizing side characters and the belt is a goddamn HENSHIN BELT" sounds great, but an assured success? No

120

If I had to rate the show on how much I've seen, it's been quite good, and I like the whole atmosphere. But it often feels like it wants to go for different ideas while still having to stay within the confines of How Rider Is Done™, which is what has held the Reiwa series back the most.

120

I'm not really that bothered about spoilers- the first episodes of Kikaider I watched are the last 3, and that did nothing to spoil my enjoyment of the rest of the show, even though I knew where it would all end up. I am glad I watched enough of Zeztz live to get to that one big twist at least.

110

This has been the trend for the Reiwa era actually. Real life gets in the way, episodes pile up and suddenly it's all over again. I usually get caught up afterwards, which in a funny way makes it feel like the old days of watching multiple series at once (my personal recommended way to watch, even).

110

Zeztz coming to a close today. I fell way, waaay behind due to other factors, but I'll probably tune in for the finale since the movie is already set after it I think? It's kinda like the early Heisei movies, except planned out instead of "IDK it's the 'period' at the end of a 'story' roflLcopter!1"

There's even some posters/lobby cards for (the totally unauthorized) Hanuman and the Five Riders! Sadly, there is no Ultraman Doll from Space Warriors 2000. Somebody has it. Someone must. Somewhere, an old man weeps as he tells his wife about that doll, before the movie forgets all about them.

he carried himself at conventions with a grateful & humble tone, not only after the breakthrough career moment of the 2007 Transformers movie, but also years before that became a reality, when by all means Botcon 2004 could have been his send-off to that part of his life it's been on my mind today

often I think back to Botcon 2004, and how Peter Cullen's panel received such ovation that he was moved to tears, in part because it was recognition for a role that had at the time been so far behind him feeling so fortunate to have seen him back then, because I also got to see him afterwards
