Bottom trawling isn’t just an ocean health issue, it’s a global food security issue. "The Impact of Bottom Trawling on Food Security," a 2026 report by the Transform Bottom Trawling Coalition, shows how industrial trawling undermines coastal livelihoods. It’s time to restrict destructive trawling.

The ocean absorbs 27% of human caused carbon dioxide emissions. As the CO₂ reacts with seawater, ocean pH decreases causing #OceanAcidification. 🧪🌊🦑 📈📉 by NOAA and @soest.hawaii.edu
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Carbon Program at the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory leads a global ocean observing program to track seawater carbon dioxide and ocean acidification.

In this graph from the Hawaii Carbon Dioxide Time-Series, the red data are observations from the Mauna Loa observatory monitoring atmospheric carbon dioxide, the green data are observations from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa ocean station ALOHA monitoring seawater carbon dioxide, and the blue data are observations from ALOHA monitoring seawater pH.

In taxonomy, organisms are often divided into monophyletic groups (or clade), i.e. groups of organisms that share a common ancestor. Mammals and insects, for example, are clades. But what about fish? Many species we call fish are more related to humans then to each other. So, are humans fish?

What is Electrofishing? Electrofishing is a fishing method which uses electricity to catch fish. It is a common method used by scientists when doing surveys as it does not kill or harm fish. The fish can just swim away when electricity is turned off. #icefishresearch #sciencecommunication
