A quick update on monthly temperatures, with data for August through August 22nd. August 2026 is now more than 1.60°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, and is on track to be the hottest August on record. The Climate Casino is taking the Over.

A really good piece here: Europe’s heat, drought, wildfires and failing harvests aren’t warnings of some distant climate future. They’re happening now. And the crucial point: overshooting 1.5°C doesn’t make action pointless. It makes every fraction of a degree we can prevent even more important.
