#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Small and small-ish films this week I quite liked Primetime and Backrooms, though I found them a touch shallow. Both looked great and had some good menace Chopping Mall is about killer robots in a mall and it uses the location well. Best with drinks and friends

Backrooms
Monster Seafood Wars

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Two great films, a mess that I'd like to see more from the director in the future, and a wild misunderstanding of the original text.

Ash
Return to Silent Hill
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

She will be missed. As a southerner, my relationship with the region I grew up with is complicated to put it lightly, but Dolly was always a beacon

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Another week where the ratings only mean so much. Apex was easily the weakest and Your Name. was definitely the best film here. Safety Last was a real triumph and Woman of the Hour leaves me excited for what Anna Kendrick does next. I had fun with all of them.

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Haven't done one of these in a bit. The Long Goodbye was by a huge margin the best movie I saw recently (ratings only tell so much of the story). I enjoyed Spider-Man, it was wildly better for me than the last one. I had criticisms, but it was fun.

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Zach Snyder has some skill but man does he need a producer who will bully him when he misses themes or under develops characters. Toy Story 4 was very funny. The Public Enemy is probably my favorite pre-code crime movie. And an early short film.

I think this is the best work Matt Baume has done. It's a very long video but it is well organized so it's easy to split up, I'm about two hours in and I've felt a lot of emotions as this really was a journey and they overcame what many of them thought was impossible.

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Some good movies this week. I didn’t plan on 3/4 of them being slapstick, but the results were positive

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Some good movies this week. I hadn’t seen The Prestige since it came out so I only remembered one of the twists. Fun rewatch, the tricks are absolutely set up well so it’s fun to spot them on this viewing.

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday I watched two authentically old films and two films which were throw backs with faux old school effects and a ton of love for old styles.

Ikarie XB 1
In a Lonely Place
Death Proof
Young Frankenstein

#LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday Good week for movies. Hokum and The Ghost of Yotsuya just missed the cutoff. After four bleak movies I had to watch something light, hence The Rescuers.

This weekend I watched three great horror films: The Ghost of Yotsuya (dir Nobuo Nakagawa), Cure, and Hokum. All three are mid-low budget films dealing with themes of fatalism and have strong imagery.

I could read 1500 but had to reread a sentence sometimes to get it. 1400 I could only read snippets. Super cool article.

You've got to see this great title sequence for the 1958 Swedish proto-Bava thriller MANNEQUIN IN RED.

Top five film genres: - Someone has a cursed object that they know they should get rid of - Gorgeous paranoid sci fi - Lost 90 minute episode of Twilight Zone - Incredibly silly and juvenile comedy that gets your guard down for an emotional gut punch - Floaty dreamlike horror
